(06/206) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

According to news reports published on June 29, 2026, an investigation has been launched into 11 prisoners held at a prison within the Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison Complex—including Murat Çepni, Co-Chairperson of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed—were subjected to physical violence by gendarmes on the grounds that they refused to accept being handcuffed with double cuffs while being transported to the Silivri Courthouse as part of an investigation opened against them.

(06/207) Interventions, Detentions, and Bans Targeting Pride Month…

It was reported that an investigation was launched against two individuals on June 27, 2026, for hanging a banner reading “LGBTQ+ people will stay, the Palace regime will fall” on an underpass in the Maltepe district of Istanbul. It was reported that the two individuals, who went to the Maltepe District Police Department to give their statements, were referred to the prosecutor’s office on June 29, 2026, on charges of insulting the President, and were subsequently released on the condition of a travel ban and mandatory regular check-ins with the authorities.

(06/208) Interventions, Detentions, and Bans Related to NATO Summit Protests…

On June 29, 2026, police intervened in a march held in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul in connection with the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7–8, 2026, and the NATO Parliamentary Summit held at Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, detaining 89 people using physical force. It was reported that those detained were not allowed to meet with their lawyers for a certain period of time at the Istanbul Provincial Police Department, where they were taken. The detainees were released on June 30, 2026, following their interrogations at the police station.

On the same grounds, on June 29, 2026, four members of the Turkish Youth Union (TGB) were detained on a ferry in Istanbul for unfurling a banner reading “NATO to the grave, fully independent Turkey.”

The Eskişehir Governor’s Office banned all demonstrations and events for a period of 8 days from July 2 to 9, 2026, while the Mersin and Karabük Governor’s Offices banned all such activities for 10 days from July 1 to 10, 2026.

(06/209) Mayors Detained in Izmir…

Of the 25 people detained on June 25, 2026, on bribery charges, 12—including İsmail Yetişkin, the mayor of Seferihisar district in Izmir—were arrested on June 30, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred. Thirteen peoplewere released, with two under house arrest—including Onur Yiğit, the mayor of the Balçova district of İzmir—and six under other judicial supervision conditions.

(06/210) Person Detained in Aydın on the Grounds of Social Media Posts…

Tamar Tanrıyar, who was detained in the Kuşadası district of Aydın on the grounds of charges of “insulting the President” and “publicly disseminating misleading information” after social media posts, was released on June 29, 2026, under judicial supervision.

(06/211) Individuals Detained in Istanbul…

Of the 17 people detained as part of an investigation into the Şile Municipality in Istanbul, 13 were remanded in custody by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred on June 30, 2026, while 4 were released on judicial supervision. It was reported that one additional person was detained on June 30, 2026, as part of the same investigation.

(06/212) Indictment Filed Against a Journalist in Istanbul…

The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Pınar Gayıp was accepted by the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 23 on June 29, 2026. The indictment seeks to convict Pınar Gayıp of the crime of “being a member of an organization.” The first hearing in the case is scheduled for September 14, 2026.

Pınar Gayıp had been arrested on February 3, 2026.

According to news reports on June 29, 2026, it was learned that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had launched an investigation into comedian Deniz Göktaş on charges of “insulting religious values” due to certain statements made during his performance.

(06/214) Presidential Advisor’s Phobic and Discriminatory Statement…

In a statement published in the press on June 29, 2026, regarding the “LGBTQ+ Rights Are Human Rights” banner hung at the Istanbul Bar Association, Presidential Advisor Oktay Saral made the following phobic and discriminatory remarks: “This mindset, which disregards the values of society, is the product of a despicable ideological choice devoid of legal responsibility (…) We must not remain silent in the face of such provocative initiatives that test the patience of our nation (…) The time has come for strong and resolute legal regulations based on the sensitivities of our nation to completely remove these debates from the national agenda.”

(06/215) Provinces Where Actions and Events Are Banned…

The Eskişehir Governor’s Office, in a statement issued on June 25, 2026, announced that within the province’s borders, marches, press conferences, gatherings in open or enclosed spaces, protests, setting up tents, sit-ins, setting up booths, hunger strikes, memorial ceremonies, the display of posters, banners, and signs, the distribution of flyers and leaflets, signature campaigns, and similar actions and events within the province’s borders for a period of 8 days, from 00:01 on July 2, 2026, to 23:59 on July 9, 2026.

The Karabük Governor’s Office, in a statement issued on June 29, 2026, announced that within the province’s borders, gatherings and demonstrations, press conferences, hunger strikes, sit-ins, protests, rallies, setting up booths, erecting tents, distributing flyers/statements/brochures, posting posters or banners, and similar actions and activities within the province’s borders for a period of 10 days, from 8:00 a.m. on July 1, 2026, to 11:59 p.m. on July 10, 2026.

The Mersin Governor’s Office, in a statement issued on June 29, 2026, prohibited within the province’s borders assemblies and demonstrations, press conferences, hunger strikes, sit-ins, protests, rallies, setting up booths, setting up tents, distributing flyers/statements/brochures, hanging posters/banners, and similar actions and activities within the province’s borders for a period of 10 days, from July 1, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. to July 10, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

(06/216) Social Media Accounts and Websites Subject to Access Restrictions…

According to news reports published on June 30, 2026, it was learned that access to the Instagram account belonging to KaosGL was restricted on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.
