İlksen Özalper, the Manisa Provincial Chairperson of the New Party, was detained in Manisa on August 5, 2026, as part of an investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. It was reported that İlksen Özalper was taken to Ankara.
(08/028) Mayor and Others Detained in Izmir…
On August 5, 2026, Deputy Mayor Rüzgar Sönmez was detained as part of an investigation targeting the Menderes Municipality in Izmir.
Earlier, as part of the same investigation, 15 individuals—including Mayor İlkay Çiçek—had been detained on charges of “bribery,” “extortion,” “forgery of official documents,” “abuse of office,” and “causing urban planning violations.”

The trial of Canan Kaplan, Co-Chairperson of the Science, Education, Aesthetics, Culture, and Arts Research Foundation (BEKSAV), which was initiated at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 25, resumed on August 6, 2026. The indictment seeks Canan Kaplan’s conviction on the charge of “being a member of an organization.” The court ordered Canan Kaplan’s release and adjourned the hearing to a later date.
Canan Kaplan had been arrested on February 3, 2026.

The indictment seeks to convict Uğur Ok of the crime of “being a member of an organization.” The court ordered Uğur Ok’s release and adjourned the hearing until November 24, 2026.

(08/037) Individuals Detained as Part of an Investigation Centered in Kırşehir…
According to news reports on August 5, 2026, it was learned that in simultaneous operations conducted in three provinces (Kırşehir, Aksaray, and Kırıkkale) as part of a Kırşehir-based investigation into the organization’s current structure, one of the eight individuals detained was released, while seven others—including three released under judicial supervision—were released.
