According to news reports published on August 3, 2026, it was learned that Tanju Yıldırım, who was detained on July 23, 2026, in the Menemen district of Izmir, was subjected to torture and ill-treatment at the Asarlık Police Station, where he was taken.

According to news reports published on August 3, 2026, it was learned that Tanju Yıldırım, after being arrested and taken to the İzmir Menemen Type T Prison, was placed in a single-person cell despite his request to be placed in a ward housing political prisoners; the cell lacked a bed and a television; and the prisoner was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment.

According to news reports published on August 4, 2026, it was learned that the release of a prisoner named Aydın Altığ, who is being held at the Kırşehir High-Security Prison and has completed his life sentence, was adjourned for a second time for a period of six months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK).

As part of an investigation into the Menderes Municipality in İzmir, 13 people—including Mayor İlkay Çiçek—were taken into custody on charges of “bribery,” “extortion,” “forgery of official documents,” “abuse of office,” and “causing urban planning violations.”

Journalist Tahir Sarıkaya was detained on August 3, 2026, as part of the “Cem Küçük” investigation being conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The trial of journalist Fatma Sibel Gürcihan, whose case was filed at the Istanbul Anatolia 78th Criminal Court of First Instance on the grounds of her social media posts regarding the former Minister of Treasury and Finance, began on August 4, 2026. The indictment seeks to punish the journalist for the crime of “publicly disseminating misleading information to the public.” The court ordered Fatma Sibel Gürcihan’s release and adjourned the hearing until October 22, 2026.
Fatma Sibel Gürcihan had been arrested on July 1, 2026.

According to news reports published on August 3, 2026, it was learned that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had prepared an indictment against Nasuh Mahruki, the former president of the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), on the grounds of a social media post related to the July 15 Coup Attempt. The indictment seeks to punish Nasuh Mahruki for the crime of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility.”
Nasuh Mahruki was arrested on July 17, 2026.

Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu, who was arrested on August 3, 2026, was suspended from office by the Ministry of the Interior on the same day.
