(05/017) Person Subjected to Physical Violence of a Soldier in Bingöl…
It is learned that a person named R. Ö., was subjected to physical violence and threats of a specialised sergeant (F. K.) after having a quarrel for he chases off R. Ö.’s children. It is reported that R. Ö. got wounded at face.
R. Ö. stated the following: “We were sitting in front of our home with the neighbours (…) Suddenly we heard someone yelling in the building, someone was chasing off the children. The children ran away and my child who was among them, came to me. F. K., a specialised sergeant was threatening the children, saying ‘I will kill you if I see you around’. I said, ‘You cannot yell at my child’, and F. K. said ‘I am fasting, do not get on my nerves or I would kill you’ and walked up to me. He attacked me, clasped me by the throat and started to hit me saying ‘I will kill you’. (…) My nose started to bleed after the blows.”
It is learned that R. Ö. got a medical report evidencing the violence and filed a restraining order against F. K., and it is stated in the news reports that the police officers at the station R. Ö. applied, said to her “We cannot do anything. You cannot prevent him coming home”. It is learned that F. K. is detained on May 3, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 4, 2021 that, lawyer Aytaç Ünsal in Edirne F Type Prison, is not given the purified Vitamin B1 that he needs for treatment. Aytaç Ünsal has been on a death fast for 213 days, to demand a fair trial; and he was released from prison on September 3, 2020 upon the verdict of Penal Department No 16 of the Court of Cassation. He was detained again in Edirne and was arrested on December 9, 2020.

It is learned that the appeal made on May 3, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

On May 3, 2021, 1 person who wanted to participate in the watch for nature in Rize, is detained. The nature watch is kept against the stone pit project in İşkencedere valley of İkizdere district in Rize.
(05/021) Police Intervention to Prayers in Mosques in Antep, Manisa, Mersin and Adana…
The police intervened the members of Furkan Foundation, gathering in several mosques in Antep for “itikaf” prayers (an Islamic practice of staying in a mosque for a certain number of days) and detained 56 people, on May 3, 2021. The police intervened the group in several mosques in Manisa and detained 10 people. It is reported that the police used pepper spray in the mosques.
Antep Governorate’s Office made a declaration and stated that “The individuals resisted not to leave the mosque, and they are detained by the use of gradual force. For those who resist the police, legal and administrative actions are taken on the charges of threat, insult, violation of curfew restrictions and violation of social distancing rules”. The governorate’s office also stated that the police officer that used pepper spray is suspended and will be subjected to administrative and legal investigations.
The police intervened the “itikaf” prayers in several mosques in Mersin and Adana on May 4, 2021. Numerous people including Furkan Foundation chair Alparslan Kuytul are detained by physical violence. It is reported that some of the detainees were handcuffed behind their backs.
The police intervened the group gathering in front of Alparslan Kuytul’s residence in Adana to protest the detentions, and detained them by using physical violence.
It is learned that a lawyer who went to Provincial Directorate Security in Adana to meet the detainees, was subjected to physical violence of the police.
The police intervened the relatives of the detainees who gather outside of Provincial Directorate Security in Adana and detained several people.
It is learned that at least 396 people are detained in the mosques in Adana, in front of Alparslan Kuytul’s residence and outside of the Provincial Directorate Security.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 3, 2021 that, 255 people who were detained in 1 May International Labour Day events in Istanbul, are imposed penalty fines of a total 888,000 Turkish Liras.
(05/024) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 347 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,501 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on May 3, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 35,438.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 41,121 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 4,900,121 as of May 3, 2021.
