(03/005) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on March 1, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in order to visit him was not responded.

(03/006) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The private security guards of Çankaya Municipality intervened Yasin Keskin, who was holding a protest in the municipality building with his wife and child, to demand his job back at there on March 1, 2022; and forced Yasin Keskin and his family out of the building. Yasin Keskin was then detained by the police and was released after statement procedures on the same day.

(03/007) Former Co-Mayor on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Selim Kurbanoğlu, former co-mayor of Yenişehir district is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on March 1, 2022. The court sentenced Selim Kurbanoğlu to 10 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and decided to arrest him.

(03/008) Legislative Impunity Lift…

The legislative immunity of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Semra Güzel is lifted in a vote about 2 proceedings against her taken at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on March 1, 2022.

(03/09) Lawyer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against lawyer Ruşen Seydaoğlu, through an investigation on the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on March 1, 2022.

The court sentenced Ruşen Seydaoğlu to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and to 1 year and 3 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the latest verdict.

(03/010) DBP Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Democratic Regions Party (DBP) deputy co-chair Mehmet Şirin Tunç is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on March 1, 2022.

A witness (H. Ş.) heard at the trial stated that the earlier statement at the police custody was given under pressure. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 14, 2022.

(03/011) Prisoners on Trial in Ankara…

The final trials of the cases against Süheyla Taş, Fatma Aslan and Nevroz Müçel, prisoners in Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison, for participating in the hunger strike to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 18 on March 1, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence for prisoners on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The court acquitted defendants in all three cases.

(03/012) June 5 – Diyarbakır Case…

Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 has reversed the verdict of local court in the case against 14 police officers for ‘official misconduct’ related to the bombing attack to HDP’s rally in Diyarbakır on June 5, 2015. Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 14 has sentenced 4 police officers (Mefaret S., Akın D., Ali K. and Murat D.) to 2 months and 15 days on October 8, 2021. The retrial is held on March 1, 2022.

It is learned that journalists and the audience including HDP’s provincial co-chair were not allowed in the courtroom. After defence and complainant declarations the court adjourned the trial.

(03/013) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On March 1, 2022, 28 people are detained in operations covering 6 cities through a Mersin based investigation; 21 people are detained in operations covering 17 cities through an Ankara based investigation and 14 people are detained through another investigation in Ankara.

(03/014) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 203 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 59,885 as of March 1, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 94,648 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,149,341 as of March 1, 2022.
