(01/075) Labour Killings…

On January 10, 2022, the Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 135 workers died while working in December 2021. It is stated that at least 2170 workers including 162 women, 62 children and 94 migrant workers lost their lives in 2021 while 625 of them died due to Covid-19.

(01/076) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 10, 2022 that, 14 prisoners including Figen Yüksekdağ, former co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) were prevented from communication as a result of disciplinary proceedings for protesting after suspicious death of a prisoner, Garibe Gezer, in Kocaeli Kandıra F Type Prison No 1.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 10, 2022 that, prisoners in Diyarbakır Women’s Prison were forced to detailed search with cameras before and after every visit, and that prisoners who reject this were not allowed to visits.

(01/077) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on January 10, 2022 at 13.30 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(01/078) Detained Academician in Ankara…

Academician Fatih Yaşlı is detained at Ankara bus terminal on January 10, 2022, on the grounds of social media posts. It is learned that Fatih Yaşlı is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(01/079) Detained People in Şırnak…

The number of people detained in house raids in İdil and Cizre districts of Şırnak and in Siirt, through a Şırnak based investigation is raised to 24 as of January 10, 2022. It is learned that 3 people were released while 21 people are still under custody.

(01/080) Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor on Trial…

The trial of the case against Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, on the grounds of insulting members of the Supreme Election Committee, after cancellation of election results in Istanbul on March 31, 2019, is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 7 on January 10, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence of 1 year 3 months and 15 days up to 4 years and 1 month for Ekrem İmamoğlu on the charge of ‘successive insult against public officers working as a board’.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial.

(01/081) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 97 people who have been detained by the police intervening to the demonstration on February 1, 2021, to protest the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University by the President, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 32 on January 10, 2022. The court ruled to forcibly summon 5 of the defendants who were absent at the trials and adjourned the trial to June 1, 2022.

(01/082) Dargeçit JİTEM Case…

The case against 18 people, for forced disappearance of 8 people including 3 children who were detained in Dargeçit district of Mardin between October 29, 2015 and March 8, 1996; and of special sergeant Bilal Batır, who was alleged to inform families of those disappeared forcefully, is held on Adıyaman Heavy Penal Court No 1 on the charge of ‘intentional killing’ on January 10, 2022.

One of the defendants’ lawyers demanded to make a criminal complaint against a complainant and lawyer on the grounds of calling “murderer” to the defendant. The court decided to send a writ for hearing Adem Kul, district prosecutor back then, refused to arrest the defendants and adjourned the trial to April 4, 2022.

(01/083) Proceedings Against Parliamentary Members…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 10, 2022 that, 10 proceedings demanding lift of impunity of 9 parliamentary members are submitted to Grand National Assembly.

Parliamentary members subjected to proceedings are:

  • DBP Co-chair and Diyarbakır MP Salihe Aydeniz
  • HDP Ağrı MP Berdan Öztürk
  • HDP Van MP Murat Sarısaç (2 proceedings)
  • HDP Van MP Muazzez Orhan
  • HDP Urfa MP Ayşe Sürücü
  • HDP Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun
  • HDP Diyarbakır MP Dersim Dağ
  • HDP Mardin MP Ebru Günay
  • The Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) İstanbul MP Ahmet Şık.

(01/084) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 141 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 65,236 as of January 10, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 83,843 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 10,043,688 as of January 10, 2021.

It is learned that doctor Ahmet Eriş in Izmir lost his life due to Covid-19 on January 10, 2022.
