(01/167) Individuals Subjected to Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Diyarbakır…

According to news reports on January 28, 2028, three unidentified individuals were subjected to physical violence by the police during a house raid in the Bismil district of Diyarbakır.

(01/168) Police Intervention in Protests in Mersin…

Six of the eight individuals detained for participating in protests held in the Akdeniz and Tarsus districts of Mersin against attacks on Kurds in Syria (Muhammed Apaydın, Azad Yorgun, İsmail Temurtaş, Muhammed Özmen, Yusuf Çelik, and an individual named Enis, whose surname is unknown) were arrested on January 27, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred on charges of “violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations” and “resisting the police.” Two others were released on judicial control conditions.

Journalist Sedef Kabaş, who was detained on January 26, 2026, in Istanbul on charges of “insulting the President” and “inciting crime” based on a social media post she made, was released on January 27, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which she was referred, under judicial control conditions in the form of a signature requirement and a ban on leaving the country.

According to news reports on January 27, 2026, a representative of Kor Kitap Yayınları was detained on the grounds of royalty payments made to Tonguç Ok and Necip Baysal, writers, translators, and editors of the publishing house who are in prison. He was released by the magistrate’s court with the judicial control measure of house arrest.

(01/171) Foreign Nationals Detained in Mardin…

It was learned that a total of 16 citizens of various European countries who came to Mardin in connection with the attacks against Kurds in Syria were detained on January 28, 2026, and taken to the Provincial Immigration Office to be deported.  It was reported that 16 people were deported on the same day. The names of those detained are: Anna Marie Müller, Marlene Emma Heldmann, Hilde Graf, Lana Sommer, Paul-Mathis Pfeiffer, Lea Hobbiebrunken, Laura Katharina Janku, Anjo Genow, Laura Schmid, Sarah Maria Moosmann, Emma Nelly Umlau, Lynn Mariam Bojang, Lena Sophie Schneider, Johanna Wiggers, Hannah Doris Drexler, Fereshte Khosravi.

(01/172) Child and Other Person Detained in Kars…

On January 27, 2026, during house raids in the Kağızman district of Kars, two people, one of whom was a child, were detained on the grounds that they had shared a video on social media in which they braided their hair to protest attacks against Kurds in Syria. The names of the detained individuals are: N.A., Ayşe Avcı.

According to news reports on January 28, 2026, Amedspor and club president Nahit Eren were referred to the Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK) on the grounds that a video of a woman braiding her hair was posted on the official social media account of the Amedspor club to protest attacks against Kurds in Syria.

According to news reports on January 27, 2026, nurse İ.A., who was detained in Kocaeli as part of an investigation launched on the grounds that she shared a video on social media braiding her hair to protest attacks against Kurds in Syria, was suspended from duty after being released on judicial control by the magistrate’s court to which she was referred.

(01/175) Individuals Detained in Operations Conducted in 46 Provinces…

According to news reports on January 28, 2026, 151 people were detained in operations conducted in 46 provinces on allegations of “using ByLock,” “being in contact with members of the organization,” and “being part of the organization’s current structure.” It was learned that 82 people were arrested and 69 people were released, 54 of them under judicial control.
