(07/159) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

From news reports published on July 29, 2028, it was learned that inmates at the Burdur High-Security Prison were subjected to forced oral cavity searches while being taken out for exercise and during hospital transfers. The report also revealed that an inmate named Tarık Alici was being held in a solitary confinement cell at the same prison.

From news reports published on July 28, 2028, it was learned that an inmate named Fatoş Pınar Türker, held at the Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Women’s Prison, was not transferred to a hospital despite fainting and hitting her head on the floor.

From news reports published on July 29, 2028, it was learned that Kendal Barut, an inmate held at Adana Suluca No. 1 High-Security Prison, was denied hospital transfers on the grounds that he refused to submit to an oral cavity search.

On July 29, 2026, as part of an investigation into Istanbul’s Üsküdar Municipality, six people—including Mayor Sinem Dedetaş—were detained.

Gökhan Sözbir, a member of the Ardahan Provincial Assembly for the Republican People’s Party (CHP), who was detained on July 28, 2028, on allegations of insulting the President in social media posts, was arrested by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred on the same day.

(07/163) Person Detained in Muğla…

On July 28, 2026, Tuğçe Güney, a woman detained in the Marmaris district of Muğla as part of an investigation targeting the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and subsequently transferred to Antalya, was arrested on July 29, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which she was referred, on charges of “corruption” and “bribery.”

On July 29, 2026, as part of an investigation into the Uşak Municipality, 15 individuals were detained on allegations of “corruption,” “bribery,” “extortion,” and “bid-rigging.”

(07/165) Political Party Executive on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of Gamze Toprak, Sultangazi District Chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), began on July 28, 2026, at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court. The indictment seeks to convict Gamze Toprak of the crime of “being a member of an organization.” The court ordered Gamze Toprak’s release and adjourned the hearing to a later date.

Gamze Toprak had been arrested on February 3, 2026.

According to news reports published on July 28, 2026, an investigation was launched against Emir Ahmet Arda, a member of the Turkish Communist Party (TKP) in the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ, and he was summoned for questioning on the grounds of social media posts he made regarding the NATO Summit.

From news reports on July 29, 2027, it was learned that an attack was carried out by an unidentified person or persons on the Hacı Kureyş Shrine in the Yavuzeli district of Antep, resulting in property damage to the shrine.

(07/168) Internet Content Subject to Access Restrictions…

It was reported that access to a website belonging to a person named İbrahim Balsak and to a video he posted on YouTube was restricted pursuant to a July 27, 2026, decision by the Ankara 9th Criminal Court of Peace, on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.
