(06/039) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan not Responded to…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 5, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

(06/040) MPs Subjected to Physical Violence in Parliament…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 4, 2024, that Justice and Development Party (AKP) MPs intervened against the Justice Watch started by Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on June 4, 2024, against Ministry of Interior’s decision to appoint Hakkari Governor Ali Çelik as trustee in place of Mehmet Sıddık Akış, who was elected as co-mayor of Hakkari Municipality in March 31 local elections; and tore the banners of DEM Party MPs and used physical violence against them.

(06/041) People Arrested for the May 1 Celebrations…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 4, 2024, that Yusuf Rencüzoğulları, a member of Grup İsyan Ateşi (Group of Rebellion Fire) who was arrested on May 4, 2024, after being detained for carrying a banner with İbrahim Kaypakkaya’s picture and wanting to march to Taksim during May 1 celebrations, was released from prison on June 5, 2024.

(06/042) Co-Mayor and Others on Trial in Hakkari…

The final trial of the case against 15 people including Hakkari co-mayor Mehmet Sıddık Akış, was held at Hakkari Heavy Penal Court No 1 on June 5, 2024. The court ruled for:

Mehmet Sıddık Akış to be sentenced to 19 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘leading an illegal organization’ and to be sentenced to arrest,

6 people to be sentenced to 8 years and 9 months each for ‘being a member of an illegal organization’;

3 people to be sentenced to 6 years and 3 months each on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’;

1 person to be acquitted on the charge of ‘establishing and leading an illegal organization’;

1 person to be acquitted on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’,

3 people to be dismissed from the case.

(06/043) Lawyer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The first trial of the case against lawyer Pirozhan Karali Güler started on June 4, 2024, at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4. The court acquitted Pirozhan Karali Güler on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’.

(06/044) Police Officers on Trial in Diyarbakır…

On June 5, 2024, the final trial of the case against Lice Police Chief Aykut Oral and police officers İsmail Akkuş, Emre Özcan, Gökhan Bay and Hayrettin Çakmak, on the charge of ‘restriction of liberty’ in connection with the abduction of a child named Y. D. (14, m) by the police officers during the Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır in 2023, was held at Lice Penal Court of First Instance. The court sentenced the defendants to 8 years imprisonment each on the charge of ‘restriction of liberty’ and to a 4.500 TL fine each on the charge of ‘damaging property’.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 4, 2024, that Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22 rejected the objection of the Directorate General of Security to the release of 5 people at the final hearing of the case against 108 members and executives of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including former co-chairs, on May 16, 2024.

(06/046) Banned Events and Demonstrations…

The Governorate of Diyarbakır announced on June 4, 2024, that in relation to the Ministry of Interior’s decision to appoint Hakkari Governor Ali Çelik as trustee in place of Mehmet Sıddık Akış, who was elected as Hakkari Co-Mayor in the March 31 local elections, all kinds of actions and activities such as gatherings, marches, vigils, press statements, hunger strikes, sit-ins, rallies, opening stands, setting up tents, distributing leaflets/brochures, hanging banners/posters, etc., as well as the entry of persons and vehicles that are considered to be able to participate in these actions and activities into Diyarbakır, and the exit of persons and vehicles that are considered to be able to participate in these actions and activities from outer districts and/or their entry into the city center are prohibited for 3 days from 14.15 on June 7, 2024 until 14.14 on June 10, 2024.

The Governorate of Bingöl announced on June 5, 2024, that all kinds of demonstrations and events such as meetings, marches, press statements, convoys of vehicles, all kinds of welcomes and farewells, indoor meetings, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, rallies, opening stands, setting up tents, distributing leaflets, distributing brochures, hanging banners etc. are banned for 7 days from 00.01 on June 5, 2024 until 23.59 on June 11, 2024.
