(06/057) Journalists Subjected to Physical Violence While Covering News in Ankara…

It was reportedly claimed in news reports published on June 9, 2026, that Akit TV reporter Muhammet Can Bulut and cameraman Nuh Güneş, who were covering the story of people waiting to attend a Republican People’s Party (CHP) group meeting in front of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) in Ankara, were subjected to physical violence by individuals said to be party members.

(06/058) The Trial of Journalists in Istanbul…

The final hearing in the case filed against journalists Esra Solin Dal, Mehmet Aslan, and Erdoğan Alayumat at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 25 was held on June 9, 2026. The court acquitted Esra Solin Dal and Mehmet Aslan, while sentencing Erdoğan Alayumat to 1 year and 3 months in prison for the crime of “making organization propaganda” and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

Esra Solin Dal, Mehmet Aslan, and Erdoğan Alayumat were arrested on April 26, 2024; on May 21, 2024, the Istanbul 25th High Criminal Court had decided to release the journalists upon bail.

The trial of Berfin Polat, Co-Chair of the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF), began on June 9, 2026, at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 25. The indictment seeks to punish Berfin Polat for the crime of “being a member of an organization.” The court ordered Berfin Polat’s release and postponed the hearing to September 3, 2026.

(06/060) Social Media Posts Subject to Investigation…

It was learned from news reports on June 8, 2026, that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into social media posts regarding the claim that visits by members of parliament to Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held at Marmara (Silivri) Prison, have been banned, on the grounds of “publicly disseminating misleading information.”

The total number of social media posts under investigation remains unknown.

(06/061) Individuals Detained as Part of an Investigation Centered in İzmir…

On June 9, 2026, 71 people were detained in operations conducted across 11 provinces as part of an investigation centered in İzmir, on the grounds that they “carried out activities on behalf of an organization and conducted work targeting university students.”
