(06/023) Police Intervention at a Protest in Ankara…

On June 1, 2026, police intervened against a group that had gathered to participate in a memorial service planned for Ethem Sarısülük—who lost his life as a result of police gunfire during the 2013 Gezi Protests—at Güvenpark in Ankara’s Çankaya district, detaining 12 people, including Bülent Türkmen, General Organizing Secretary of Tüm Bel-Sen.

Police intervened against those gathered in front of the SOL Party Headquarters to attend the same memorial and detained 12 people, including party officials.

Of the 24 people detained, 6 were released on June 2, 2026, following their statements at the police station, while 18 were released by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred, subject to the condition of a travel ban abroad as part of judicial supervision.

(06/024) Journalist Detained While Covering News in Ankara…

During the police intervention against those gathered to participate in a memorial service planned for Ethem Sarısülük—who lost his life as a result of police gunfire during the 2013 Gezi Protests—on June 1, 2026, at Güvenpark in the Çankaya district of Ankara , during a police intervention targeting those gathered to participate in a planned commemoration at Güvenpark in the Çankaya district of Ankara, Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Sema Bingöl, who was covering the news, was detained by police using physical force. Journalist Sema Bingöl was released on June 2, 2026, following her interrogation at the police station.

(06/025) Individuals Detained in İzmir…

On June 1, 2026, four people were detained as part of an investigation targeting the Buca District Municipality in İzmir. As a result, the total number of individuals detained in connection with the investigation rose to 54.

On June 2, 2026, three people were detained as part of an investigation into the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.

(06/027) Environmental Activist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of Cemre Nayir, President of the Polen Ecology Association, began on June 2, 2026, at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13. The indictment seeks to punish Cemre Nayir for the crime of “being a member of an organization.” The court decided to release Cemre Nayir under judicial supervision, including a weekly reporting requirement and a ban on leaving the country, and adjourned the hearing to a later date.

Cemre Nayir had been arrested on February 3, 2026.

(06/028) Person Against Whom an Indictment Was Prepared in Istanbul…

It was reported that the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against commentator Erman Toroğlu—on the grounds of remarks he made on a television program regarding Galatasaray Club and its president—was accepted by the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance on June 2, 2026.

The indictment seeks to punish Erman Toroğlu for the crime of “publicly disseminating misleading information.”

Erman Toroğlu was detained on February 9, 2026, and released on judicial supervision.

(06/029) The Mehmet Sincar Case…

The trial of Cihan Yıldız, who is being retried at the Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 6 in connection with the murder of Mehmet Sincar, a Batman MP from the Democracy Party (DEP), on September 4, 1993, resumed on June 2, 2026. The court decided to lift the travel ban abroad, a judicial supervision measure imposed on Cihan Yıldız, and adjourned the hearing until December 15, 2026.

(06/030) Social Media Accounts Subject to Access Restrictions…

Three pieces from the “Visa Empire” series by journalist Canan Coşkun, available at https://kisadalga. net/, along with one news article related to the series on the https://halktv.com.tr/ website and one social media post made from the journalist’s own account, were blocked by a decision of the Istanbul 9th Criminal Court of Peace dated June 1, 2026, on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.
