(09/032) Lawyer Being Subjected to Physical Violence by the Police in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 4, 2018 that, a female lawyer who came to Istanbul Bayrampaşa District Police Headquarters to join a suspect’s statement procedures, was subjected to physical violence and harassment of a police chief named G. K., in the backyard of the headquarters.

It could be seen in the security video footage covered by news reports that, the police chief has a conversation with the lawyer and tells her “We have beaten many lawyers here, should we beat you too”, and asked other police officers to bring a club; then checks two clubs brought to him and hits the lawyer at the hand with one of them; and asks other police officers bring a gun then, which he later fired up in the air; and then he left the gun in the backyard where a janitor takes the gun and points it to the lawyer while laughing.

It is learned from the news coverage that, the lawyer made an official complaint to the prosecutor’s office against chief and lieutenants of Public Order Department of Bayrampaşa district; and 4 police officers including G. K. and 1 janitor have been detained through the investigation.

It is also reported that the police officers were suspended, and numerous clubs and criminal tools were found in the chief’s room.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 4, 2018 that at least 4 prisoners in Antalya L Type Prison are transferred to different prisons under coercion. The names of transferred prisoners are: Mehmet Şah Oturakçı, Fırat Can, Hüseyin Atalay and Mehmet Aytekin.

(09/034) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 4, 2018 that a fire started in the woods between Çeltik and Armutlu villages of central district of Hakkari; and security forces prevented villagers from figthing the fire on the grounds that the area is within special security zone.

(09/035) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on September 4, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on September 4, 2018, 2 people (Mahmut Konuk, Mehmet Dersulu and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Gülnaz Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on September 4, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(09/036) Detained HDP Members and Executives in Iskenderun…

On September 4, 2018, People’s Democratic Party (HDP) İskenderun district co-chairs Muhsine Tepe and Ahmet Çağan; and HDP members M. Şalar Şahin, Mehmet Şahin, Mehmet Benek are detained in house raids in central and İskenderun districts of Hatay. It is reported that M. Şalar Şahin, Mehmet Şahin, Mehmet Benek were released the same day after statement procedures and co-chairs are still under custody.

(09/037) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

Diyarbakır Governorate made a declaration on September 4, 3018 and announced that 872 people were subjected to criminal record check, 73 houses were searched and 13 people were detained by the operations proceeded after the curfew in villages and hamlets of Hani and Lice districts. The declaration does not provide any information on the names of detainees and where they have been taken to.

(09/038) Municipality Police Intervened a Street Exhibition in Düzce…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 4, 2018 that, the street exhibition “Draw a line to fascism”, by architect Alev Şahin, who organizes sit-in protests to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, and that Alev Şahin was fined for “occupying the pavement”.

(09/039) June 5 – Diyarbakır Case…

The case on Sincan West Courthouse Heavy Penal Court No 2, for the bombing attack to HDP’s meeting on June 5, 2015 in Diyarbakır, is held on September 4, 2018. Orhan Gönder, one of the defendants attended the trial in the courtroom while other defendants joined via sound and vision system. Complainant lawyers repeated the intervention demand of Lisa Çalan, who has lost both her legs due to bombing attack. The court decided to continue detention for arrested defendants and adjourned the trial to October 23, 2018.

(09/040) HDP Members and Executives on Trial in Manisa…

The final trial of the case against 30 people (3 of them arrested) including members and executives of People’s Democratic Party (HDP), on Manisa Heavy Penal Court No 3 is held on September 4, 2018. The court sentenced 29 people including HDP Manisa co-chair Ahmet Ertaş and Turgutlu district co-chair Selahattin Dağlı to jail penalties differing from 1 year to 7 years and 6 months on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, and ‘aiding an illegal organisation’. It is learned that Ahmet Ertaş and Selahattin Dağlı were sentenced to 7 years and 6 months each for ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court released 3 arrested defendants on juridical control conditions.

(09/041) Peace Mothers and TJA Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 14 members of Peace Mothers and Free Women’s Movement (TJA), 5 of which are arrested, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 is held on September 4, 2018. Aynur Taşdöğen, Ayşe Yıldız Çiçekçi, Canşah Çelik, Arife Çınar and Rıhan Akgül, who were arrested, attended the trial and made their defence declarations. It is claimed on the news reports that the chief judge responded the demand of defendants for Kurdish interpreter as “They should speak Turkish if they can. Otherwise they will cause the trial drag on”. It is also reported that, the court decided to hear procedural objections of the lawyers after examination of the evidence, and warned the lawyers who object the decision as saying “I will take you out”. After defence hearings the court decided to release 5 arrested defendants and adjourned the trial to December 27, 2018.

(09/042) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On September 4, 2018, 23 lieutenants on active duty are detained in operations covering 16 cities through an Ankara based investigation on Gendarmerie General Command personnel are detained. 25 former police officers, who are dismissed by state of emergency decrees, in Bursa; 12 people including former teachers who are dismissed by state of emergency decrees, in operations covering 4 cities through an Antalya based investigation and 2 members of Association of Active and Retired Personnel (TÜMÇED) in Bartın are detained.

(09/043) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against former lieutenant A. A., who was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, on Kayseri Heavy Penal Court No 4 is held on September 4, 2018. The court sentenced A. A. to 9 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’, and then reduced the sentence to 3 years and 9 months due to effective remorse laws.

(09/044) Curfew in Lice…

Diyarbakır Governorate made a declaration on September 4, 2018 and lifted the curfew in 8 villages and 10 hamlets of Lice district, which was announced as of 18.00, on September 3, 2018. The curfew is lifted in following villages and hamlets: Şenlik, Birlik, Abalı, Erginköy, Tuzlaköy, Çeper, Daralan, Duruköy villages and Elmadere, Ağılçık, Akçapınar, Ayaz, Şakan, Boyluca, Dahlık, Alikahya, Hacımusabey, Kutlamış hamlets.

(09/045) Curfew in Hani…

Diyarbakır Governorate made a declaration on September 4, 2018 and lifted the curfew in 7 villages and 12 hamlets of Hani district, which was announced as of 18.00, on September 3, 2018. The curfew is lifted in following villages and hamlets: Kaledibi, Akçayurt, Topçular, Y. Turalı, Kalaba, Uzunlar, Serenköy villages and Başaklı, Güzelce, Taşburun, Karapilyari, Mezartarlası, Sıraevler, Horsel, Çay, Damlatepe, Uysal, A. Turalı, Gürbulak hamlets.

(09/046) Special Security Zone in Antep…

Antep Governorate made a declaration on September 4, 2018 and announced the borderland of Turkey with Syria as special security zone for 15 days between August 31, 2018 and September 14, 2018.
