(07/174) Journalist Arrested in Istanbul…

Journalist Cem Küçük, who was detained in Istanbul on July 30, 2026, on the grounds of his social media posts and statements, was arrested on July 31, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred, on the charge of “publicly disseminating misleading information.”

(06/175) The Trial of the Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and Others…

The first hearing in the trial—filed at the Bursa Heavy Penal Court No. 2 against 63 individuals, 37 of whom are in custody, including Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey—took place between July 20, 2026, and July 30, 2026. The indictment seeks to punish the defendants for the crimes of “establishing and leading an organization for the purpose of committing crimes,” “membership in an organization established for the purpose of committing crimes,” “bribery,” “laundering assets derived from crime,” “causing urban planning violations,” and “unlawful assumption of public office.” The court ruled to continue the detention of 21 individuals, including Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Mustafa Bozbey and former Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem, while ordering the release of 16 others, and adjourned the hearing until October 5, 2026.

Mustafa Bozbey was arrested on April 4, 2026, and was removed from office by the Ministry of the Interior on the same day.

(07/176) Internet Content Subject to Access Restrictions…

It was reported that, pursuant to a July 28, 2026, decision by the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 3, access to three news articles regarding a company published on the websites https://www.diken.com.tr/, https://www.birgun.net/, and https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/ was blocked on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.

According to news reports published on July 30, 2026, it was learned that access to the X social media account belonging to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been blocked.
