(07/169) Police Intervention at a Protest in Ankara…
The police intervened in a peaceful protest held on July 30, 2026, by workers at Doruk Madencilik in front of the company’s headquarters in Ankara’s Çankaya district over unpaid wages and compensation and detained 59 persons. Among those detained were Şeref Zeyrek, Deputy General Secretary of the Turkish Mine Workers’ Union, Cemil Çiçek, President of the Çeltek Branch, and Talih Kocabıyık, President of the Central Anatolia Branch. Those detained were released the same day after giving their statements to the police.

It was reported that police prevented journalists from filming a protest held on July 30, 2026, by workers at Doruk Mining outside the company’s headquarters in Ankara’s Çankaya district regarding their unpaid wages and compensation claims.

As part of an investigation into the Ankara Etimesgut Municipality, 52 people—including Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu—were detained on July 30, 2026, on charges of “forming an organization for the purpose of committing a crime, membership in an organization,” “embezzlement,” “bribery,” “extortion,” “bid-rigging,” and “abuse of office.”

According to news reports published on July 30, 2026, it was learned that journalists Timur Soykan, Nedim Bayhan, Fatih Altaylı, and Uğur Dündar were summoned for questioning on the grounds of social media posts related to a news story about a ceremony held on July 25, 2026, for new members of the Republican People’s Party (CHP). It was reported that Timur Soykan and Nedim Bayhan gave their statements to the press prosecutor’s office. Previously, BirGün reporter Ebru Çelik and the newspaper’s web coordinators, Uğur Koç and Berkant Gültekin, had also given their statements to the prosecutor’s office in connection with the same news story.

According to news reports on July 30, 2026, it was learned that access to the X social media account belonging to the Jinnews news agency had been blocked.
