13 people including 1 child who were detained on April 7, 2026 through the investigation initiated after Newroz celebration in Ağrı, are arrested by the criminal court of peace on April 8, 2026 on the charge of ‘resisting the police’.

4 people including Ömer Ekşi, mayor of Bornova district of Izmir, are detained on April 9, 2026 due to ‘qualified fraud’ and ‘forgery of official documents’.

CHP Ankara Provincial Chairperson Ümit Erkol, who was detained through an Izmir based investigation on April 9, 2026, was taken to Izmir on the same day. It is also reported that 8 more people are detained through the investigation.

Comedian Tuba Ulu was detained in Istanbul on April 9, 2026 on the grounds of ‘insulting historical national and spiritual values’ for a joke she made about Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in a show.
(04/057) Journalists and Other People on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The trial of the case against 19 journalists through the investigation against Pel Yapım, Piya Yapım and Arî Yapım companies continued on April 9, 2026 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4. The indictment demands sentence for 19 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court ruled to continue the judicial control measure of ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to July 9, 2026.

The final trial of the case against 7 people including journalist Barlas Helvacı, for participating in the protests in Ankara against detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 30 on April 9, 2026. The court acquitted 7 people on the charge of ‘opposing the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No 2911’.

It is learned that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Emre Alım, executive director of Sol News agency, reporter İrem Yıldırım and writer Orhan Gökdemir, on the grounds of a criminal complaint against them for 2 news reports on the website, and that the journalists went to Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate on April 8, 2026 and gave their official statements.
