(02/089) Prisoner’s Release Adjourned by the Prison Administration and Observation Board Decision…

On February 12, 2026 it is learned from the news coverage of February 12, 2026 that, the release of Aydın Altığ, a prisoner in Kırşehir S Type Prison, who had completed the execution of his prison sentence, has been adjourned for 6 months by Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) on the grounds of “lack of remorse”.

(02/090) Arrested People in Adana and Istanbul…

Onur Yoldaş Mete who was detained in Adana through an Istanbul based investigation, İbrahim Halil Doğan who was detained in Urfa and Ceylan Publishing representative Hüseyin Gültepe who was detained in Istanbul were arrested by the criminal judgeships of peace on February 11, 2026.

Accordingly, the number of people arrested through the Istanbul based investigation including Murat Çepni, Co-Chair of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) is 80.

Ramazan Yıldız, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Adalar district youth branch chair Ramazan Yıldız, who was detained on February 11, 2026, is arrested by the criminal court of peace on February 12, 2026 on the charge of ‘targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism’.

(02/092) Journalist on Trial in Bitlis…

The trial of the case against journalist Perihan Kaya, for her remarks about the former mayor of Tatvan district of Bitlis, continued on February 11, 2026 at Tatvan Penal Court of First Instance No 1. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charge of ‘insult’. The court adjourned the trial to May 20, 2026.

(02/093) Person on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the case against manager Ayşe Barım, on the grounds of participating in Gezi Protests in 2013 with the artists of her agency, was held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26 on February 11, 2026. The court sentenced Ayşe Barım to 12 years and 6 months for ‘aiding an attempt to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey’.

Ayşe Barım was arrested on January 27, 2025 and was released on October 1, 2025.

(02/094) Police Officer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

On February 11, 2026, the retrial of the case against Şahin Öner, who lost his life when he was hit by an armoured police vehicle during the protests organized in Diyarbakır on February 10, 2013 to mark the anniversary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s return to Turkey, continued after Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 1 reversed the sentence of 4 years 5 months and 10 days given to police officer S.K. by Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeals Criminal Chamber No 3 on the grounds of ‘incomplete investigation and research’. The indictment demands sentence for the police officer on the charge of ‘causing death with conscious negligence’. The court adjourned the trial to March 16, 2026.

(12/095) The Trial of Police Officers and Another Person on the Death of a Police Officer and a Citizen in Mardin…

The retrial of the case against 4 persons including 3 police officers (Z.D., Y.K., S.A.Y.) in relation to the deaths of 1 police officer Ahmet Benli and 1 citizen Sadettin Özbahçeci in Derik district of Mardin on April 9, 2016, continued on February 11, 2026 on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 5. The court adjourned the trial to July 19, 2025.

At the final trial of the case against 4 people including 3 police officers, the Heavy Penal Court sentenced Celal Mercen to heavy life imprisonment on the charges of ‘intentional killing’ and ‘intentional injury causing death’ and acquitted 3 police officers. Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeals reversed the verdict and demanded acquittal and release of Celal Mercen on the grounds that the bullet that killed police officer Ahmet Benli did not match with the guns found in his car.

On February 11, 2026, it is learned from the news coverage of February 11, 2026 that access to X social media account of Socialist Party of the Oppressed, X social media account of Jinnews and Tiktok social media account of Mezopotamya Agency is banned.

(12/097) Television Channels Penalized by RTÜK…

On February 11, 2026, it is learned from news coverage of February 11, 2026 that Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed administrative fines on Halk TV channel for some expressions in the program “Para Siyaseti” and on NOW TV channel for the series ‘Kıskanmak’ on the grounds of “violating national and moral values of society, general morality and the principle of protection of family”.

It is learned that the event titled “Is Turkey Terror Free” to be organized by Boğaziçi University Turkish Studies Club on February 12, 2026 was canceled by the university rectorate.
