(02/067) Persons Subjected to Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Van…
It is learned from the news coverage of February 10, 2026 that, during the police raid to the house of Lorin Aryen Turğut, member of Peoples’ Equality and Democratic Party (DEM Party) Youth Assembly in Edremit district of Van, her brother was subjected to physical violence and was wounded in the head. It is also stated in the news reports that family members speaking Kurdish were threatened by the police saying “I will kill you, don’t speak Kurdish”.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 9, 2026 that a Kurdish book sent to Mahmut Aba, a prisoner in Kocaeli Kandıra F Type Prison No 2, was not given to him on the grounds of being objectionable. It is reported that Kocaeli Penal Court of Execution No 2 decided to translate the book at the prisoner’s expense.
It is learned from the news coverage of February 10, 2026 that, political prisoners in Izmir Şakran Women’s Prison were forced to carry their prison ID cards with them and prisoners who reject to do so were restricted in their rights such as visits with lawyers, family visits, access to health care and receiving cargo. It is stated in the news reports that Zühal Sürücü was not allowed to visit her lawyer on February 10, 2026, on the grounds that she rejected to carry her prison ID card.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 10, 2026 that, three prisoners (Zühal Sürücü, Tuğçenur Özbay, Güzin Tolga) in Izmir Şakran Women’s Prison have been on hunger strike since January 30, 2026, demanding an end to right violations.

On February 9, 2026, it is learned that private security units and the police intervened the protest on the campus of Istanbul Boğaziçi University about the evacuation of student clubs’ rooms by the decision of the Rectorate. It is reported that the police used tear gas chemical agent during the intervention.

On February 9, 2026, it is learned from news coverage of February 9, 2026 that Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment on the grounds of her social media posts against journalist Sedef Kabaş. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on charges of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘public incitement to commit crime’.

The case against 7 people who were detained during the police intervention against the protests against the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor in Saraçhane Square in Fatih district, continued to be held on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 20 on February 10, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for 7 people on the charge of ‘violating Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No 2911’. The court adjourned the hearing to April 2, 2026.

On February 10, 2026, 8 people are detained in Ankara on the grounds of being a member of the current illegal organisation. It is learned that one of the detained people is arrested and 7 people are still under custody.
