(01/074) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Mardin…
It is learned that on January 14, 2026, 4 people including 3 children were subjected to torture and ill-treatment, threatened to death and then detained by police officers in front of the gendarmerie station in Derik district of Mardin. It is reported that 4 people were released by the prosecutor’s office on January15, 2026. It is learned that 4 people who got medical reports documenting torture and ill-treatment to which they were subjected, will make a criminal complaint against the police officers.
(01/075) Police Intervention to Protests in Şırnak, Adana and Mersin…
The police intervened the protest in Cizre district of Şırnak on January 14, 2026 about the attacks against Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo, Syria. It is not known whether anyone was detained during the intervention.
The police intervened the protest for the same cause in Seyhan district of Adana on January 14, 2026 and detained 6 people. The names of detainees are as follows: Devran Şimşek, Serhat Tatlı, Delal Bulut.
The police detained 4 people including 2 children (U.A., S.A., Sedat Baydar, Kemal Delen) on January 14, 2026 in Akdeniz district of Mersin for participating in a protest for the same cause.

It is learned that on 15 KJanuary, 2026gendarmerie intervened the people gathered to attend the hearing of the lawsuit demanding a stay of execution on the cancellation of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu’s university diploma, to be held at Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison Campus, using physical violence. It is reported that no one was detained during the intervention. It is learned that 1 person was wounded during the intervention.

Ajansa Welat reporter Nedim Oruç is detained by the police using physical violence while covering the protests in Cizre district of Şırnak on January 14, 2026, about the attacks on Kurdish neighbourhoods in Aleppo, Syria. It is learned that detention period of Nedim Oruç, who was taken to Şırnak, is extended for 1 day and a 24 hour restriction on lawyers is imposed.

Volleyball player Derya Çayırgan is detained through an investigation against IBB on January 15, 2026. Derya Çayırgan was released by the criminal court of peace on the same day with house arrest measures.

The trial of the case against human rights defender Nimet Tanrıkulu continued on January 15, 2026 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 24. The indictment demands sentence for Nimet Tanrıkulu on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court decided to continue judicial control measures against Nimet Tanrıkulu and adjourned the trial to March 22, 2026.
Nimet Tanrıkulu, who was detained on November 26, 2024 in Istanbul and was arrested on November 29, 2024 in Ankara, was released from prison on March 4, 2025.

On January 14, 2026, it is learned from news coverage of January 14, 2026 that, journalist Özgür Boğatekin was sentenced to 1 year 2 months and 17 days in Adıyaman Gerger Criminal Court of First Instance on the grounds of his social media posts, and his appeal was rejected by Antep Regional Court of Appeals Criminal Chamber No 3.

The final trial of the case against 5 children on the grounds of participating in the protests against detention of IMM Mayor, is held at Istanbul Juvenile Court on January 15, 2026. The court acquitted 4 children on the charge of ‘opposing to Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No 2911’ and decided to separate the case of 1 child.

On January 15, 2025, it was learned from the news coverage of January 15, 2025 that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) issued a decision to SHOW TV channel for the episodes of the TV series “Velihat” broadcast on December 4, 11, 18 and 25, 2025; to NOW TV channel for the episodes of the TV series “Halef: The Call of the Roots“ for the episodes of the TV series aired on December 11 and 18, 2025; NOW TV channel for the episodes of the program ”Efsane Furbol“ aired on December 1, 6, 7, 14 and 20, 2025; Disney+ digital platform for the program ”Konuşanlar”; and social media platform Spotify for some songs. It is also reported that RTÜK issued a penalty of removal from the catalog for the program “Konuşanlar”.

On January 13, 2026, 16 people were detained in house raids in Kocaeli on the allegations of being a member of an intimate structure of the organization.
