(10/150) Individuals and Their Relatives Subjected to Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Adana…

According to news reports on October 22, 2025, it was learned that a person named Özcan Dal was subjected to physical violence by the police during a house raid in the Seyhan district of Adana. The news report also stated that Özcan Dal’s family members were also subjected to physical violence and threatened by the police.

(10/151) Individuals Subjected to Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Mardin…

According to news reports on October 23, 2025, it was learned that on October 21, 2025, in the Dargeçit district of Mardin, four people were subjected to physical violence by the police on the grounds that they said “these are gendarmes” to people playing a soccer game on a carpet field they were passing by. It was reported that the four individuals received a report documenting the torture they were subjected to and filed a complaint against the police officers.

On October 21, 2025, it was learned that a group allegedly affiliated with the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) attacked a stand set up by the Victory Party in Aydın, resulting in one person being injured.

(10/153) Prisoners Whose Release Was Postponed by the Prison Administration and Observation Board…

According to news reports on October 22, 2025, Hüseyin Bilecan (4th time), Ebubekir Yul (4th time), Ahmet Nas (4th time), Hacı Geciken (3rd time), Cemil İvrendi (3rd time), Recep Ergülü, Mustafa Şihi, and Mikail Saklı, a total of 8 prisoners, had their release postponed for 6 months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK).

It was learned that journalist Emin Aydın, Editor-in-Chief of the Aydın Denge news site, was arrested and sent to prison on October 21, 2025, following the confirmation of his 1 year and 8 month prison sentence by the İzmir Regional Court of Appeals.

(10/155) Trial of Journalists in Istanbul…

The trial of BirGün Board Chairman İbrahim Aydın, birgün.net Publication Coordinator Uğur Koç, and former birgün.net Editor-in-Chief Yaşar Gökdemir began on October 22, 2025, at the IstanbulHeavy Penal Court No. 23, based on a news report about a visit made by Sabah Newspaper to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor on February 8, 2025. The final hearing of the case was held on October 22, 2025. The court sentenced Uğur Koç and Yaşar Gökdemir to a fine of 35,400 TL for “publicly insulting a public official in connection with their duties,” and sentenced İbrahim Aydın to 11 months in prison. The court acquitted the three journalists of the charge of “targeting individuals involved in the fight against terrorism.” The court also lifted the judicial control measure prohibiting the journalists from leaving the country.

The trial of 23 people, including Ezilenlerin Hukuk Bürosu (Law Office of the Oppressed) lawyers Sezin Uçar, Özlem Gümüştaş, Gülhan Kaya, and Ali Haydar Doğan, Etkin Haber Ajansı (ETHA) news director İsminaz Temel and reporter Havva Cuştan, and members and executives of the Ezilenlerin Sosyalist Partisi (ESP, Socialist Party of the Oppressed), continued on October 22, 2025, at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 27.   The indictment seeks punishment for the 23 individuals on charges of “being a member of an organization” and “making organization propaganda.” The court postponed the hearing until March 11, 2026.

(10/157) Trial of Journalist in Bitlis…

The trial of journalist Perihan Kaya, which was initiated at the Tatvan Criminal Court of First First Instance No. 1 in following a complaint by the former mayor of Bitlis’ Tatvan district, continued on October 22, 2025.  The indictment seeks punishment for the journalist on charges of “insult.” The court adjourned the hearing until February 11, 2026.

(10/158) Trial of a Journalist in Tunceli…

The trial of Özgür Gelecek reporter Yusuf Çelik began on October 22, 2025, at the Tunceli Criminal Court of First Instance No. 1. The case was filed on the grounds that books written by İbrahim Kaypakkaya were found at the Nisan Yayıncılık stand during the Munzur Culture and Nature Festival held in Tunceli in July 2025. The court announced its decision at the first hearing and sentenced the journalist to 10 months in prison and a fine of 400 TL, postponing the announcement of the verdict.

(10/159) Trial of Lawyers in Istanbul…

The trial of lawyer Selçuk Kozağaçlı, Honorary President of the Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD), and lawyers Barkın Timtik, Oya Aslan, Özgür Yılmaz, Güçlü Sevimli, and Gülvin Aydın, which was opened at the Istanbul Heavy Criminal Court No. 18, continued on October 21, 2025. The indictment seeks punishment for the six lawyers on charges of “making organization propaganda.” The court adjourned the hearing until January 13, 2026.
