(10/081) Person Injured by Police Fire in Istanbul…

On October 14, 2025, during a roadside check in the Bakırköy district of Istanbul, it was learned that one person was injured by police fire after allegedly failing to comply with a stop order. The name of the injured person could not be determined.

(10/082) Individuals Detained as Part of an Investigation into Antalya Metropolitan Municipality…

On October 14, 2025, six individuals were detained on allegations of bribery as part of an investigation into Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.

(10/083) Former Mayor and Other Individuals Detained in Bursa…

Of the 22 individuals detained on October 10, 2025, 15, including Turgay Erdem, former Mayor of Nilüfer district in Bursa, were arrested on October 13, 2025, by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred on charges of “membership in a criminal organization” and “bribery.” Seven individuals were released on judicial control conditions.

(08/084) The Trial of the Former Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and Others…

The trial of 65 individuals, including the former Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Tunç Soyer, and the former Chairman of the Izmir Provincial Organization of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Şenol Aslanoğlu, 6 of whom are in custody, continued on October 13, 2025, at the Izmir Heavy Penal Court No. 23. The indictment seeks the punishment of 65 individuals for the crime of “aggravated fraud.” The court decided to release a total of three individuals, including Şenol Aslanoğlu, who was placed under house arrest as a judicial control measure, and to continue the detention of three individuals, including Tunç Soyer, and adjourned the hearing until December 9, 2025.

(10/085) Journalist and Others on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of 15 individuals, including journalist Can Öztürk, who were detained during a police intervention against protesters opposing the participation of Nurettin Yıldız, President of the Social Fabric Foundation, in a conference held at Boğaziçi University, began on October 13, 2025, at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 69. The indictment seeks punishment for the 15 individuals on charges of “violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations” and “resisting to prevent the performance of duty.” After the defenses, the court adjourned the hearing to January 12, 2026.

(10/086) Trial of Journalist in Bitlis…

The trial of journalist Mehmet Şah Oruç, which began at the Bitlis Heavy Penal Court No. 2, continued on October 14, 2025. The indictment seeks punishment for the journalist on charges of “being a member of an organization” and “making organization propaganda.” The court decided to continue the ban on the journalist leaving the country and adjourned the hearing to January 20, 2026.

The trial of journalist Ahmet Kanbal, which was initiated at the Adıyaman Criminal Court of First Instance No. 5 on the grounds of his programs related to the earthquake that struck Maras on February 6, 2023, continued on October 14, 2024. The indictment seeks to punish Ahmet Kanbal for the crime of “publicly disseminating misleading information to the public.” The court adjourned the hearing until November 3, 2025.

Following the Constitutional Court’s ruling of violation, the retrial of journalist Murat Aksoy, who was sentenced to 2 years and 1 month in prison by the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 25, began on October 14, 2025. The indictment seeks to punish Murat Aksoy for the crime of “aiding an organization.” The court adjourned the hearing until December 9, 2025.

(10/089) Journalist, Academician, and Others Tried in Istanbul on the Basis of Social Media Posts…

According to news reports on October 13, 2025, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has prepared an indictment against 20 individuals, including journalist Fatoş Erdoğan and academic Emrah Gülsunar, based on social media posts related to protests against the appointment of a trustee to the Republican People’s Party Provincial Headquarters. The indictment seeks punishment for the 20 individuals on charges of “openly inciting crime.”

(10/090) Trial of Political Party Members and Executives on Trial in Istanbul…

Following the earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, on February 26, 2023, in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul , 87 members and executives of the Turkish Workers’ Party (TİP) were detained after being subjected to torture and other ill-treatment while protesting the sale of tents by the Red Crescent in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul. The final hearing of the case, which was brought before the Istanbul Anadolu Criminal Court of First Instance No. 44, was held on October 13, 2025. The court acquitted the 87 individuals of the charge of “violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations.”

(10/091) Social Media Account Blocked…

According to news reports on October 13, 2025, journalist Barış Terkoğlu’s article titled “Did someone say rule of law?” and two news articles related to the article on the websites https://www.veryansintv.com/ and https://kisadalga.net/ were blocked under Article 8/A of Law No. 5651 on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.

Access to three news articles on the websites https://www.birgun.net/, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/, https://www.patronlarkulisi.com/, were blocked on October 10, 2025, by the Istanbul Criminal Court of Peace No. 7 on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.

(10/092) Theater Play Canceled in Ağrı…

According to news reports on October 13, 2025, the performance of the play “Quasimodo – The Hunchback of Notre Dame,“  on October 11, 2025, at the Ağrı Culture and Congress Center as part of a tour, was canceled following the Governor’s Office’s statement two days before the performance that ”the hall is not available.”
