It was learned that Sözcü reporter Evren Demirdaş was attacked with fists by unidentified individuals in front of the municipal building in Elazığ on October 1, 2025.
(10/011) Special Security Units Intervene at Stands in Istanbul…
On October 2, 2025, it was learned that private security units intervened at booths opened separately by the Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), Revolutionary Youth Associations (DGD), and Student Collective on the campus of Istanbul University. It was reported that one student was injured during the intervention.

The final hearing of the case against journalist Furkan Karabay, which was brought before the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on the grounds of his social media posts regarding the investigation process against Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, was held on October 2, 2025. The court acquitted Furkan Karabay of the charges of “targeting individuals involved in the fight against terrorism” and “publicly disseminating misleading information,” but sentenced him to a fine of 42,500 TL for “insult” and postponed the announcement of the verdict.
Furkan Karabay was arrested on November 9, 2024, as part of this investigation and was released on November 18, 2024.
(10/013) Trial of Journalists and Others in Istanbul…
Seven journalists (Hayri Tunç, Gülistan Dursun, Pınar Gayıp, Serpil Ünal, Can Papila, Muhammet Enes Sezgin, Osman Akın) were tried in Istanbul on December 21, 2024, for a press statement made in Istanbul regarding the deaths of journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin in North and East Syria. The trial continued on October 2, 2025, at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 24. The indictment seeks punishment for the 9 individuals for “violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations” and “making organization propaganda.” The court decided to lift the travel ban abroad as a judicial control condition for the 9 individuals and adjourned the hearing to November 4, 2025.
Seven journalists (Gülistan Dursun, Can Papila, Pınar Gayıp, Serpil Ünal, Hayri Tunç, Muhammed Enes Sezgin, and Osman Akın) were arrested on December 21, 2025, and released on bail on January 31, 2025.

The trial of seven individuals detained during a police intervention against protests held in Saraçhane Square, Fatih District, against the detention of the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality continued on October 2, 2025, at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 20. The indictment seeks punishment for the seven individuals for “violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations.” The court adjourned the hearing until February 10, 2026.

The trial of 12 individuals, including one in custody and one under house arrest, began on October 1, 2025, at the Istanbul Bakırköy Criminal Court of First Instance. They were detained during a police intervention against a protest targeting companies supplying weapons to Israel at the IDEF 2025 Defense Industry Fair. The court decided to release the detained person and lift the judicial control measures against the 12 individuals, including the person under house arrest, and adjourned the hearing to a later date.

The trial of Ramazan Şimşek, who announced that his Pine Cafe would only provide services in Kurdish after May 15, 2024, Kurdish Language Day, began on October 2, 2025, at the Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5. The indictment seeks to punish Ramazan Şimşek for the crime of “making organization propaganda” in a chain manner. The court adjourned the hearing until November 13, 2025.

The final hearing of the case against Hatice Çiftçi Göktepe, which was brought before the Urfa Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on the grounds of her social media post regarding Hacı Lokman Birlik, who lost his life during the curfew and whose body was dragged behind an armored vehicle, was held on October 1, 2025. The court sentenced Hatice Çiftçi Göktepe to 1 year and 3 months in prison for “making organization propaganda” and adjourned the sentence.

According to news reports on October 2, 2025, it was learned that the Urfa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had decided not to prosecute the investigation into the death of a prisoner named Abdurrahim Yüksel, who died on July 20, 2024, in Urfa No. 1 T-Type Prison.

According to news reports on October 1, 2025, the premiere of director Kurutuluş Baştimar’s film “Dağlardan Başka Tanık Yok” (No Witnesses Other Than the Mountains) at the Büyülü Fener Cinema in Ankara was cancelled by the cinema’s management.

Three news articles on the websites https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/, https://www.sozcu.com.tr/, https://abcgazetesi.com.tr/ have been blocked by the Istanbul Criminal Court of Peace No. 5 with a decision dated September 29, 2025, on the grounds of “protecting national security and public order.”
