(09/214) Refugee/Migrant Died in Aydın…

It is learned that 2 people including a woman and a child from Afghanistan died due to sinking of a rubber boat carrying refugees/migrants off Didim district of Aydın on September 25, 2025.

(09/215) Person Forced to be a Spy in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 25, 2025 that, Sinan Yılmaz, a resident of Van, who was reportedly dismissed from his job by the trustee appointed to Van Metropolitan Municipality, was called by people claiming themselves as police officers and was forced to be a spy.

It is stated in the news reports that Sinan Yılmaz was subjected to being a police informant by people claiming themselves as police officers in January and April 2025.

Sinan Yılmaz stated the following in his statement to the press “I participated in the march for the right to hope on September 17th. The day after the march, I was called again by the police. They threatened my family and told me that I had until tomorrow and that it would be a pity for my family and children.”

(09/216) Police Intervention to a Protest in Izmir…

On September 25, 2025, private security units and the police intervened the stands opened by student clubs in Izmir Ege University campus and detained 20 university students by using physical violence.

It is learned from news coverage that detainees were subjected to physical violence after the cameras in the police cars they were detained in were turned off. It is also reported that 2 people got head injuries during the intervention.

Detainees were released on the same day.

The names of detainees are as follows: Müslüm Enes Osanmaz, Fatih Pala, Şevval Ayrancı, Deniz Şentürk, Efe Kaan Gür, Mert Kata, Berke Bozkurt, Havin Taş, Helin Taş, Göksu Ritsa.

(09/217) Mayor on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the lawsuit filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu due to his statement on expert witnesses in the cases he is on trial continued on September 26, 2025 at the Istanbul  Criminal Court of First Instance No 2. The indictment demands sentence for Ekrem İmamoğlu on the charges of ‘attempting to influence fair trial’ and ‘attempting to influence judicial officials’.

The court adjourned the trial to December 12, 2025.

(09/218) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the retrial of the case against journalist Merdan Yanardağ was held on September 25, 2025, after the Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals overturned the imprisonment sentence given to him for “denigrating the Turkish nation, the state of the Republic of Turkey, the institutions and organs of the state” in the case filed at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 due to a column he wrote. The court acquitted Merdan Yanardağ.

(09/219) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against journalist Celalettin Yalçın was held again on September 26, 2025 after the Court of Cassation overturned the prison sentence given by Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37. Celalettin Yalçın attended the hearing via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from Kırşehir High Security Prison.

The court sentenced the journalist to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’ and released Celalettin Yalçın on judicial control conditions.

Journalist Celalettin Yalçın was arrested on November 9, 2023.

(09/220) Lawyer on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the case against lawyer Betül Vangölü Kozağaçaçlı was held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26 on September 25, 2025. The court acquitted Betül Vangölü Kozağaçlı on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’.

Betül Vangölü Kozağaçlı was detained on February 6, 2024 and was arrested by the criminal court of peace to which she was referred, and was released at the trial held on February 12, 2025.

(09/221) The Case Against CHP Istanbul Congress…

On September 25, 2025, the trial of the lawsuit filed at Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance regarding the annulment of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul provincial congress held on October 8, 2023 continued. The court rejected the objection against CHP’s decision to appoint a trustee board to the provincial administration on the grounds of Özgür Çelik’s re-election as provincial chairman in the extraordinary provincial congress held on September 24, 2025 and decided to continue the trustee board.

(09/222) Indictment Prepared Against…

On September 26, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 26, 2025 that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against presenter Boğaç Soydemir and guest Enes Akgündüz on the grounds of a joke made in the program “Cold War” on Youtube.

The indictment demands sentence for Boğaç Soydemir and Enes Akgündüz on the charge of ‘publicly inciting hatred and hostility through press and broadcasting’.

Boğaç Soydemir and Enes Akgündüz were arrested on September 23, 2025.

(09/223) Seyithan Durdu Case…

On September 25, 2025, the trial of the case against Y.A., commander of 2nd Border Battalion 3rd Border Company Tulgalı Border Station, about Seyithan Duru’s death due to gunfire opened by soldiers in Avzêrk rural neighbourhood of Saray district of Van on December 28, 2024, continued at Van Heavy Penal Court No 1. The indictment demands sentence for the defendant soldier on the charge of ‘manslaughter with probable intent’. The court adjourned the trial to November 21, 2025.

Y.A. was arrested on December 31, 2024 and released on January 7, 2025 upon objection.

(09/224) Ahmet Atakan Trial…

On September 25, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 25, 2025 that the Constitutional Court concluded on the individual application of Ahmet Atakan, who lost his life due to being hit by a gas canister fired by the police in Hatay during Gezi protests in 2013. It is reported that the Constitutional Court ruled that Ahmet Atakan’s right to life was violated, his family was paid 225.000 TL moral compensation and the case was sent to Adana Regional Administrative Court for reconsideration.

(09/225) Canceled Concerts…

It is learned that Hayko Cepkin’s concerts in Kayseri and Diyarbakır were canceled due to lack of permission from the relevant local authorities.
