(09/181) Mayor Detained in Kırıkkale…

5 of 8 people including Ahmet Sungur, Justice and Development Party (AKP) elected mayor of Yahşihan district of Kırıkkale, who were detained on September 19, 2025, are arrested by the criminal court of peace on September 22, 2025 on the charge of ‘extortion’. 3 people are released 1 of them on judicial control conditions.

(09/182) Detained Municipality Executives in Ankara…

On September 23, 2025, 13 people including municipality executives are detained through an investigation initiated by Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office against Ankara Metropolitan Municipality for concerts organized between 2021 and 2024, on the grounds of ‘public damage’.

(09/183) Detained Person in Amasya…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 22, 2025 that, 1 person is detained in relation to the attack to the bust of Atatürk in a school in Göynücek district of Amasya on August 30, 2025 and is released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions on the same day.

(09/184) Detained Person in Mersin…

On September 23, 2025, a person named Sipan Aysal is detained in a house raid in Mersin. The reason for detention could not be learned.

(09/185) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The retrial of the case against Xwebûn newspaper writer Mehmet Şahin is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on September 23, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. After defenses the court adjourned the trial to November 13, 2025.

At the final trial of the case against journalist Mehmet Şahin at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 held on February 10, 2022, the court sentenced him to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, which was reversed by Criminal Chamber No 9 of Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeals.

(09/186) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against Mehmet Kamış, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Zaman newspaper, which was shut down by a Decree Law (KHK), and Ali Çolak, former culture and arts editor of the newspaper, was held on September 23, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26.

The indictment demands sentence for the journalists on charges of ‘attempting to abolish the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) or prevent it from performing its duties’, ‘attempting to abolish the Government of the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from performing its duties’, ‘attempting to abolish the constitutional order’ and ‘being an illegal organization member’.

The court acquitted Ali Çolak on all charges, separated the case against Mehmet Kamış and decided to continue detention of Mehmet Kamış.

(09/187) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Karar reporter Feyza Nur Çalıkoğlu for her news reports on torture and ill-treatment of migrants/refugees in removal centers started on September 18, 2025 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2.

The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charge of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’.

The court adjourned the trial to February 10, 2026.

(09/188) Party Members, Executives and Other People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 26 people including Maltepe district council member Yusuf Alperen Yurduseven, Esenyurt district council member Canali Tan, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul provincial chair Özgür Çelik, CHP Sultangazi district chair Kemal Avseren, CHP Maltepe district chair Kenan Otlu, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 18 on September 22, 2025. 26 people are charged in the indictment of Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 18 on September 22, 2025.

The indictment demands sentence for 26 people on the charges of ‘resisting to prevent duty’, ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’, ‘intentional injury’, ‘damaging public property’.

After defenses the court adjourned the trial to February 23, 2026.

(09/189) Human Rights Defender on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against human rights defender Nurcan Kaya started on September 23, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13. The indictment demands Nurcan Kaya to be sentenced for ‘being an illegal organization member’ and ‘violating the Law on Prevention of Financing of Terrorism’. The court lifted the judicial control conditions on Nurcan Kaya and adjourned the trial to December 18, 2025.

(09/190) Investigation Against Musician…

Musician Mabel Matiz gave his official statement at Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse on September 22, 2025, through the investigation opened by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against him for his song “Perişan”.

It is learned that Mabel Matiz was released after statement procedures on the same day on judicial control condition of ‘leaving the country’.

(09/191) Investigation Against Television Channel…

It is learned that on September 23, 2025, the channel’s Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ, Program Moderator Musa Özuğurlu and Responsible Manager İhsan Demir were taken to Istanbul Çağlayan courthouse by police officers through the investigation initiated against Tele1 channel due to a statement about the President on the screen during a program.

Yanardağ, Özuğurlu and Demir were referred to the criminal judgeship of peace after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on the same day and were released on judicial control conditions of ‘ban on leaving the country and signing in police station’.

(09/192) People on Detention Warrants…

On September 22, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 22, 2025 that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against the presenter Boğaç Soydemir and guest Enes Akgündüz, on the grounds of ‘provoking the public to hatred and hostility or insulting them’, on the grounds of a joke in the program ‘Cold War’ on Youtube, and that a detention warrant was issued for 2 people through the investigation.  Boğaç Soydemir and Enes Akgündüz were arrested on the same day by the Criminal Court of Peace on the allegation of “publicly inciting hatred and hostility through press and broadcasting”.

(09/193) Suspended Mayor…

Ahmet Sungur, AKP elected mayor of Yahşihan district of Kırıkkale, who was arrested on September 23, 2023, was suspended by the Ministry of Interior on the same day.

(09/194) Access Restricted Websites…

It is learned that https://anf-news.com / website of Fırat News Agency is banned to access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 5 on September 19, 2025.

(096/195) Detained People in Izmir…

On September 23, 2025, 10 people are detained in house raids in Izmir on the grounds of being active in an illegal organization and making propaganda for an illegal organization on social media.
