(09/173) Journalist Threatened…
It is learned from the news coverage of September 19, 2025 that Jinnews reporter Şehriban Aslan, was threatened by the alleged kidnapper for her news report titled “Family whose children were kidnapped: We have no security of life”, was threatened by the alleged kidnapper. It is learned that the journalist made a criminal complaint to Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office about the threats.
(09/174) Prisoners whose release has been adjourned by the Prison Administration and Observation Board…
It is learned from the news coverage of September 22, 2025 that the release of Aynur Epli, a prisoner in Izmir Şakran Women’s Prison, who completed the execution of her life sentence, has been adjourned for 9 months by the decision of Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK). Aynur Epli’s release was adjourned twice before, once for 6 months and once for 4 months.

2 of 4 people including Republican People’s Party (CHP) elected deputy mayor Özgür Örnek, who were detained on September 17, 2025 through an investigation against the municipality of Köyceğiz district of Muğla on the allegations of ‘corruption’, are released on September 20, 2025, 2 on house confinement (Özgür Örnek ve Metin Y
and the other 2 (Melikcan Y. and Metin A.) on judicial control conditions.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 19, 2025 that, Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 7 upheld the jail sentence given to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on the charge of ‘publicly insulting public officials working as a board in a chain because of their duties’ in the case filed at Istanbul Anatolian Penal Court of First Instance No 7, for his alleged remarks against members of Supreme Election Board after the annulment of the results of local elections held on March 31, 2019, by revising it as 1 year 19 months and 15 days. It is also reported in the news reports that the Regional Court of Appeals ruled to reject the appeal on the merits, with an open appeal at the Court of Cassation.

The trial of the case against İbrahim Aydın, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BirGün, Uğur Koç, Editorial Coordinator of birgün.net, and Yaşar Gökdemir, former Managing Editor of birgün.net, based on a news article about Sabah Newspaper’s visit to Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor on February 8, 2025, continued on September 22, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23. The indictment demands sentence for journalists on the charges of ‘targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism’ and ‘publicly insulting a public official for his/her duty’. The court adjourned the trial to October 22, 2025.

The trial of the 22 unsolved murders of Uğur Mumcu, former Ankara Bar Association President Muammer Aksoy, academic Bahriye Üçok, and politician Ahmet Taner Kışlalı continued on September 22, 2025 at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 5, known as the “Hope Case”. Former Minister of Interior Mehmet Ağar testified as a witness via SEGBİS. The court adjourned the hearing to February 9, 2026.

On September 20, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 20, 2025 that conscientious objector lawyer Gökhan Soysal was fined 210.130 Turkish Liras by Sivas Military Service Department on May 25, 2025, for not doing military service.
(09/180) Party Chairman’s Speech Containing Phobic and Discriminatory Expressions…
On September 22, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 22, 2025 that the following phobic and discriminatory statements were made in the speech of Mustafa Destici, chair of the Grand Union Party (BBP), at the Çorum provincial congress of his party “They are trying to sell us LGBT perversion as freedom and who defends them, DEM defends them, TİP defends them, CHP defends them and those around them defend them (…) These TV series, these songs, LGBT associations, all these are doing moral terror (…) This is more dangerous than armed terror.”
