(09/036) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 5, 2025 that, 1 militant died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Gare area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on January 14, 2025.

(09/037) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 5, 2025 that political prisoners in Erzurum Dumlu Prison No 1 were threatened by saying “Do you think you will see peace, you will die here”. It is also stated in the news reports that a prisoner named Serhat Karsu’s phone call was interrupted while he was telling about the rights violations he was subjected to.

(09/038) Detained Municipal Administrators and Other People in Istanbul…

2 of 7 people including Avcılar Municipality Culture and Art Chief Hüseyin İnan and Transportation Services Manager Murat İpşir, who were detained on September 3, 2025 in Istanbul through an investigation against Beşiktaş and Avcılar Municipalities, are arrested by the criminal court of peace on September 4, 2025 on the charge of ‘corruption’. 5 people were released on judicial control conditions.

(09/039) Detained People in Istanbul…

On September 5, 2025, 5 people including 3 members of Workers’ Party of Turkey were detained in house raids in Istanbul, on the grounds of participating in the march organized by Boğaziçi University students on September 2, 2025, to protest the death of Hilal Özdemir (15) due to an armed attack of a man while she was working at a wedding on Boğaziçi University campus. 5 people were detained and released on judicial control conditions by the criminal court of peace on the same day.

(09/040) Mayor and Other People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against 26 people, 13 of whom are arrested, including Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, was held at Istanbul Anatolian Heavy Penal Court No 17 between September 2 – 5, 2025.

The indictment demands 26 people to be sentenced for ‘bid rigging’, ‘qualified fraud’ and ‘forgery of official documents’.

Following the defenses, the court ruled for the release of 13 people and adjourned the hearing to a later date.

13 of 26 detainees were detained on March 4, 2025 and Alaattin Köseler was dismissed by the Ministry of Interior.

(09/041) Indictment Prepared Against Journalist…

It is learned from news coverage of September 5, 2025 that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against journalist Furkan Karabay for his social media posts. The indictment demands sentence for Furkan Karabay on the charges of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism’.

Furkan Karabay was arrested on May 15, 2025.

(09/042) Lawyers and Association Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 49 people including 11 lawyers from Lawyers’ Association for Freedom (ÖHD) and 38 members of the Association for Solidarity with Families of Detainees (TUAD), which was closed down by the Decree Law, continued on September 2 – 5, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14. The court adjourned the trial to October 17, 2025.

(09/043) Indictment Against Magazine Executives…

On September 4, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 4, 2025 that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against 6 executives and illustrators of Leman Magazine, on the grounds of a cartoon published in the magazine.

The indictment demands sentence for managing editors Zafer Aknar and Aslan Özdemir, managing editor Ali Yavuz and graphic designer Cebrail Okçu, editor-in-chief Mehmet Tuncay Akgün on the charge of ‘public incitement to hatred and hostility through press and publication’, and for cartoon illustrator Doğan Pehlevan on the charge of ‘public incitement to hatred and hostility through press and publication in a chain’.

Doğan Pehlevan, Zafer Aknar, Cebrail Okçu, Ali Yavuz, Aslan Özdemir were arrested on July 12, 2025. There is an arrest warrant for Mehmet Tuncay Akgün.

(09/044) Canceled Party Congresses in Istanbul

On September 4, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 4, 2025 that, district congresses of Republican People’s Party (CHP) Ataşehir, Esenyurt, Sarıyer, Başakşehir and Bakırköy district organizations are suspended by district election boards on the grounds of Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance’s decision to suspend the district congresses of CHP Istanbul provincial administration. It is reported that the Supreme Electoral Board lifted the suspension of district congresses and rejected the objection on Gürsel Tekin’s appointment as CHP’s Istanbul provincial chair with its decision taken on September 5, 2025.

It is learned from the news coverage of September5, 2025 that access to X social media account of Yeni Yaşam newspaper is banned.

(09/046) Detained People in Istanbul…

Within the scope of the Istanbul based investigation against ASSAN Group, 3 people were detained on September 5, 2025 on the allegations of ‘being in contact with the organization’ and ‘military espionage’.
