(08/084) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…
According to news reports on August 20, 2025, Habibe Elhalil Elmüslüm, a Syrian citizen detained in Diyarbakır Women’s Prison, was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment while being transferred to hospital. The report also stated that a disciplinary investigation was initiated against Habibe Elhalil Elmüslüm on the grounds of a letter she wrote to PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.
(08/085) Police Intervention in Protest in Istanbul…
On August 21, 2025, police intervened against residents of the Topağacı neighborhood in the Ümraniye district of Istanbul who were protesting the declaration of their homes as a reserve area and the subsequent attempt to evict them, as well as the cutoff of natural gas, water, and electricity to their homes. At least three people were reportedly detained as a result of the intervention.

Gökhan Böcek, the son of Muhuiitin Böcek, the mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, who was arrested on August 5, 2025, as part of an investigation into the municipality, was detained at Antalya Airport on August 20, 2025, and was arrested by the magistrate’s court on the same day.

It has been reported that posters for a rally organized by the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in Van on August 20, 2025, were removed by municipal police units affiliated with the metropolitan municipality, which has been placed under trusteeship.
(08/088) University Students in Ankara Cut Off from Their Dormitories…
According to news reports on August 20, 2025, four university students staying at a dormitory affiliated with Hacettepe University in Ankara were expelled from the dormitory for participating in a protest against the decision to close the dormitory cafeteria early.
