(08/026) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to Bianet’s “Male Violence Register,” at least 32 women and 5 children were killed by men across Turkey in July 2025. The statement also stated that men inflicted violence on at least 85 women, harassed 20 women, abused 8 children and forced 73 women to sex work.

(08/027) Labor Killings…

According to the statement made by Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG), at least 204 workers including 9 women, 9 children and 7 migrants/refugees lost their lives while working in July 2025.

(08/028) Prisoner Died in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2025 that Dilan A. (24), an ill prisoner in Erzincan Women’s Prison, died on January 3, 2025. It is claimed in the news reports that the prisoner was not given his regular medication for 5 days.

(08/029) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2025 that, in Erzincan Women’s Prison, there are more prisoners than the capacity, letters written by prisoners are censored, letters written by prisoners to the press and Human Rights Association about rights violations they are subjected to are not sent, letters written to official institutions which should have been sent closed are opened and read, televisions are not allowed to be placed in common areas of wards, the number of books each prisoner can keep with him/her is limited to 15, some books and magazines are not given to prisoners even though there is no confiscation order against them, prisoners’ right to chat is restricted, the food given is inadequate and of poor quality, the doors of the rooms in wards are closed automatically at 00.00, and prisoners were forced to be examined in handcuffs during hospital transfers.

It is learned from news coverage of August 7, 2025 that political prisoners in Kırşehir S Type Prison were subjected to verbal violence of wardens.

(08/030) Prisoners Prevented from Right to Access to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 6, 2025 that prisoners in Antalya S Type Prison were not referred to infirmary. It is also stated in the news reports that 2 ill prisoners, Esat Dalkılıç and Ömer Deniz, were not referred to hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2025 that, Simay Ada Kart, a prisoner in Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Prison was taken back to prison from hospital without being treated because of rejecting to be examined in handcuffs.

It is learned from news coverage of August 7, 2025 that, in Erzincan Women’s Prison, sick prisoners were not given necessary diet meals despite of medical reports, and prisoners who reject to be examined in handcuffs were taken back to prison without being treated.

(08/031) Release of Prisoners Adjourned by Prison Administration and Observation Board…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 6, 2025 that, the release of 5 prisoners (Ahmet Mustafa (for the 5th time), Hasan İnci (for the 4th time), Keyfo Başak (for the 7th time), Nurettin Ataman (for the 7th time) and Tuncay Doğan (for the 5th time) in Bolu F Type Prison was adjourned by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) decision.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2025 that, the release of Cemil İnverdi, a prisoner in Kırşehir S Type Prison, who completed the execution of his life sentence, is adjourned by a decision of CİGK.

(08/032) Person Subjected to Physical Violence of the Police in Istanbul…

It is learned that 1 person was subjected to physical violence of the police at a gas station in Sancaktepe district of Istanbul on August 7, 2025. It is reported that a police officer is suspended from duty.

Istanbul Governorate made a declaration on the incident and stated the following “It was reported that an alcoholic person was disturbing the environment at a gas station in Meclis Neighborhood of Sancaktepe district by using profanities with swear words. Upon the report, security teams went to the scene to take the person under control, but during the intervention, there were unwanted images that were also reflected on social media. After the incident, an investigation was initiated on the procedural appropriateness of the intervention and a staff member was suspended from duty.”

(08/033) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 53 people including 2 arrestees who were detained during the police intervention against 23rd Istanbul Pride March on June 29, 2025, started on August 8, 2025 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 51.

The indictment demands sentence for 53 people on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’.

The court limited the number of lawyers to 3. The court also ruled that 5 defendants (2 of whom are arrested) and their lawyers, bar association observers, consular representatives are allowed to enter the courtroom; journalists, other defendants, lawyers, independent observers and LGBTI+ activists are not allowed to enter the courtroom.

The court ruled for the release of Sinem Çelebi and Hivda Selen, lifted the judicial control conditions on all defendants and adjourned the hearing to December 24, 2025.

Sinem Çelebi, Hivda Selen and Doğan Nur were arrested on June 30, 2025, and Doğan Nur was released on July 30, 2025 with a decision of reconsideration.

(08/034) Conscientious Objector on Trial in Sivas…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2025 that, a conscientious objector named Çınar Koçgiri Doğan was sentenced to 5 months in Sivas Penal Court of First Instance No 3 for not going to military service. It is also stated in the news reports that the appeal of the sentence was rejected by Criminal Chamber No 5 of Kayseri Regional Court of Appeals on July 2, 2025 and the verdict became final.

(08/035) Person on Indictment in Istanbul…

The indictment prepared by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against Arda Kardemir for his social media posts was accepted by Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No 23 on August 6, 2025. The indictment demands Arda Kardemir to be sentenced for ‘insulting the President’. Arda Kardemir was detained on April 30, 2025 and was released on house confinement with judicial control measure on May 3, 2025.

(08/036) Discriminatory and Phobic Practices in Istanbul…

It is learned that a person who came to Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse to watch the lawsuit against those who were detained in the police intervention to the 23rd Istanbul Pride March, was detained by the police at the entrance of the courthouse for wearing a t-shirt with “all the cool girls are lesbians” written on it in English, and was taken to the police station in the courthouse, and was released after 1 hour on condition of changing the t-shirt.

(08/037) Journalist is Banned to Leave the Province…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2025 that, journalist Rahime Karvar, who was arrested on January 21, 2025 and was released on the first trial of the case against her on June 12, 2025 was given a judicial control measure of ban on leaving the province and electronic handcuffs on the grounds of not attending the second trial of the case against her on July 17, 2025. It is also reported that the court ruled a judicial control measure for Rahime Kavar to sign her name 2 times a week.

(08/038) Political Party Banner Pulled Down by the Police in Elazığ…

On August 7, 2025 it is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2025 that the banner of Zafer Party on an overpass in Elazığ was taken down by the police.

(08/039) Access Ban on Internet Contents…

It is learned that 3 news reports on https://www. dokuz8haber.net/ , https://halktv.com.tr/ , https://haber.sol.org.tr/ websites and 3 posts on social media platforms regarding the diploma of a Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) MP were banned to access by Istanbul Büyükçekmece Penal Court of Peace No 6 on August 6, 2025.

It is learned that Youtube channel of journalist Fatih Altaylı is banned to access on the grounds of national security and protection of public order by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 6 on August 7, 2025.
