(08/019) Newspaper Employee Threatened and Forced to Become a Spy in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 6, 2025 that, Yunus Emre, an employee of Yeni Yaşam Newspaper in Diyarbakır, was stopped and threatened by 2 people claiming themselves as police officers and was forced to be a police informant.

(08/020) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of August 5, 2025 that Fırat Akgül, a prisoner in Elazığ High Security Prison No 1, was transferred to another prison against his will. It is stated in the news reports that the prison administration did not inform Fırat Akgül’s family which prison he was transferred to.

(08/021) Detained City Council Member in Istanbul…

Burak Korkmaz, elected city council member from Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Beykoz district of Istanbul, is detained on August 6, 2025, for his social media posts on the complaint of Beykoz Deputy Mayor and another city council member.

(08/022) LGBTI+ Activist Arrested in Ankara…

Enes Hocaoğulları, LGBTI+ activist and delegate to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, was detained at Ankara Esanboğa Airport on August 5, 2025, on the grounds of his speech at a Council of Europe meeting. Enes Hocaoğulları was arrested by the criminal court of peace on the same day on the charges of ‘publicly spreading misleading information’ and ‘inciting hatred and hostility among the public’.

(08/023) People on Indictment in Izmir…

On August 6, 2025, Izmir Criminal Court of First Instance No 17 accepted the indictment prepared by Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 56 people in connection with an investigation against Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The indictment demands 56 people to be sentenced for ‘bid rigging’. The first hearing of the case will be held on November 24, 2025.

On August 6, 2025, Izmir Criminal Court of First Instance No 28 accepted the indictment prepared by Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 44 people in connection with an investigation against Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The indictment demands 44 people to be sentenced for ‘bid rigging’. The first hearing of the case will be held on November 25, 2025.

(08/025) Reinstated Mayor in Adıyaman…

Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere, who was suspended by the Ministry of Interior on July 10, 2025 after he was detained and released under house arrest, was reinstated by the Ministry of Interior on August 5, 2025 after the house arrest measure against him was lifted.
