(02/113) Prisoner’s Release Postponed by the Prison Administration and Observation Board Decision…
It is learned from the news coverage of February 13, 2025 that, the release of Emrah Kandemir, a prisoner in Elazığ High Security Prison No 1, who completed the execution of his prison sentence on December 24, 2024, is postponed for 6 months by Prison Administration and Monitoring Board on the grounds of ‘not being in good behaviour’.

On February 13, 2025, Yunus Aksu, representative of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) was detained in a house raid in Hopa district of Artvin. The reason for detention was not known. Yunus Aksu was released the same day after statement procedures at the gendarmerie.

On February 13, 2025, a person named Abdurrahman Gezer was detained in a house raid in Dargeçit district of Mardin through an investigation on trustee protests.

On February 13, 2025, 4 people (Nedim Taş, Ferhat Kayran, Doğan Batur, Necat Eşim) are detained in house raids in Ceyhan district of Adana on the allegations of making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media.

3 of 4 people (Umut Özzengin, Ekrem Hallaç, Abdullah Aşır) who were detained in Mersin on February 11, 2025 on the allegations of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are arrested by the criminal court of peace on February 12, 2025. 1 person (Yeter Çağında) was released on judicial control conditions.

The trial of the case against LGBTI+ rights activist İris Mozalar, based on a social media post criticizing the racist attacks against Syrian refugees/asylum seekers that started in Kayseri in July last year and continued across the country, started on February 12, 2025 at Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No 61. The indictment demands sentence for İris Mozalar on the charge of ‘public incitement to hatred and hostility’. After the defenses the court adjourned the trial to February 26, 2025.
Iris Mozalar was detained on July 10, 2024, arrested by the criminal court of peace on July 11, 2024 and released on July 12, 2024.
(02/119) Police Officer on Trial in Şırnak…
The final trial of the case against police officer S.E., on the allegation of hitting and injuring lawyer Serkan Karakaş in Şırnak on April 10, 2022, was held on February 12, 2025 at Şırnak Heavy Penal Court No 3. The court sentenced the defendant police officer to 13 years and 4 months for ‘attempted intentional killing with monstrous feeling’ and ruled for the arrest of the defendant police officer.
The case regarding the injury of lawyer Serkan Karakaş with a car was previously filed at Şırnak Criminal Court of First Instance; the court ruled that the case should be sent to the heavy penal court.

The final trial of the case against 3 police officers for torture and ill-treatment of Mesut Eşen and Mervan Eşen at Bismil District Security Directorate where they were detained is held at Bismil Heavy Penal Court on February 13, 2025. The court sentenced 3 police officers to 1 year 9 months and 25 days for intentional injury and postponed the sentence.

It is learned that the social media account named Bombacı Mülayim, which shared news on rights violations of police officers, is banned to access by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 3 on February 11, 2025, on the grounds of national security and protection of public order.
It is learned that 3 news reports on https://www.sabah.com.tr/, https://artigercek.com/, https://www.yenicaggazetesi.com.tr/ websites about an Azerbaijani businessperson are banned to access by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 9 on February 12, 2025. The reason of the decision could not be learned.

Antep Governorate made a declaration on February 12, 2025 and announced that demonstrations, press declarations, open and closed meetings, protests, rallies, sit-ins, sit-ins, opening stands, hunger strikes, commemorations, hanging banners and posters, distributing flyers and leaflets, opening petition tables, lighting and carrying torches, conferences, panels, seminars, bazaars, fundraising activities and similar events are banned for 15 days from February 13, 2025 to February 27, 2025.
