The Ministry of Interior announced on 13 November 2024 that Yiğit Can Yiğit, a police officer on duty at Tunceli Special Operations Branch Directorate, died in hospital after being wounded due to an accident that allegedly occurred in a shooting training area. It is reported in the news that a judicial and administrative investigation was initiated.
(11/152) Person Who Lost His Life by Police Fire in Bingöl…
It is learned from the news coverage of November 13, 2024 that, Sinan Çıtak, a person on a detention warrant in Bingöl on November 12, 2024, lost his life when the police opened fire on the grounds of attempting to escape during detention procedures.
The Governorate of Bingöl announced on 12 November 2024 that the police officer who shot Sinan Çıtak was detained, the investigation is being carried out by the gendarmerie, 3 police officers including the police officer who shot Sinan Çıtak were suspended, and the inspectors assigned by the Ministry of Interior to investigate Sinan Çıtak’s death started an investigation in Bingöl on 13 November 2024.

It is learned that the appeal made on November 14, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

It is learned from the news coverage of 13 November 2024 that, at least 195 people were detained during the protests in Batman against the decision to appoint trustees to Mardin, Batman and Halfeti districts of Urfa since 4 November 2024, 25 of them were arrested and 170 people including 5 people on house confinement conditions were released.

Hüseyin Aydın, a member of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Youth Assembly, who was detained on 11 November 2024 for the protests in Mardin against the decision to dismiss co-mayors of Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti districts of Urfa and appoint trustees in their place, was arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on 13 November 2024. Günay Şimdi, Mehmet Dudu and Ferhan Şahin, who were detained in Mardin for the same reason, were released by the criminal peace judgeship on the same date.
The Governorate of Batman announced on 14 November 2024 that 5 people who were detained for participating in the protests in Batman for the same cause, were arrested. The names of the people could not be learned.
(11/156) ESP Members, Lawyers and Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against 23 people including Law Office of the Oppressed lawyers Sezin Uçar, Özlem Gümüştaş, Gülhan Kaya and Ali Haydar Doğan, Etkin News Agency (ETHA) news director İsminaz Temel, reporter Havva Cuştan and Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) members and executives, continued on 13 November 2024 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 27. The indictment demands a sentence for 23 people on the charges of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court decided to lift the judicial control conditions on lawyer Sezin Uçar, to evaluate the judicial control conditions on other people together with the verdict and adjourned the trial to 21 January 2025.

The Governorate of Mardin announced on 14 November 2024 that, all kinds of open-air and indoor meetings, rallies, marches, press statements, hunger strikes, sit-ins, opening stands, setting up tents, drone filming activities, surveys, distribution of leaflets, hanging banners, etc. and entry and exit of people who are considered to participate in these activities are banned for 10 days between 14 November 2024 and 24 November 2024.
