(10/001) People Wounded Due to an Armed Attack by Village Guards…

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, 11 people including the mukhtar of Aladana village were wounded due to an armed attack of village guards in a quarrel between villagers and village guards in the Aladana village of Hizan district of Bitlis. It is also reported in the news that the village was blockaded by soldiers.

One of the villagers living in Aladana stated the following to the press: “Three years ago, these village guards carried out the same attack and killed a child. They carried out this attack again, saying ‘The state is behind us and nothing will happen to us’. Our village is now under blockade, they do not even allow us to go to the hospital to see our patients. Rangers accompanied by specialized sergeants come in front of the hospital and intimidate us. At the moment the mukhtar of our village is seriously wounded and under treatment (…)”.

It is learned from the news coverage of 30 September 2024 that, a trans woman named Simge was subjected to physical assault with sharp objects by 2 people who took her hostage in her house in Diyarbakır on 27 September 2024 and was robbed of her money.

(10/003) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, ‘Mekap’ brand sneakers sent to Cihan Demir, a prisoner in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison by his family, were seized by the prison administration on the grounds of being ‘provocative’ for other prisoners. It is learned that Cihan Demir appealed to Silivri Execution Judgeship against the decision and the prison administration sent a letter to the judgeship claiming that Mekap shoes ‘symbolise PKK’, and Silivri Execution Judgeship rejected Cihan Demir’s appeal on the same grounds and ruled that the shoes should not be given to Cihan Demir.

It is claimed in the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, the prison director of Samsun Bafra T Type Prison prevented prisoners from benefiting from social and cultural activities.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, Serbest Süleyman, a Syrian citizen prisoner in Samsun Bafra T Type Prison, was rejected by the prison administration for changing his room five times in a year on the grounds of ‘increasing criminal potential’, and that 6 notebooks of Serbest Süleyman were seized during a ward search on 14 August 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, Syrian prisoners Ferhad Musa and Şadi Mohammed, who are kept in Ankara Sincan High-Security Prison No 1, cannot have money deposited to their accounts due to not being appointed guardians for various reasons, and therefore they cannot meet their financial needs, and they have not been able to get necessities such as a water heater for 1 year.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, 3 Syrian prisoners (Derwiş İsmail, Ahmed Aziz, Muhammed Khalifa) in Ankara Sincan High-Security Prison No 2 were not provided with a lawyer due to problems with power of attorney.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, Akar Iqbal, a Syrian citizen prisoner in Kırşehir High-Security Prison, was subjected to verbal violence and threats by prison officials for speaking Kurdish, and that he could not have money deposited to his account because his family does not live in Turkey and therefore could not make phone calls.

(10/004) Prevention of Right to Access Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 1, 2024 that, Syrian citizen Serbest Süleyman, a prisoner in Samsun Bafra T Type Prison, was supposed to have surgery for a cervical hernia before the COVID-19 pandemic, but the surgery was canceled; and that Serbest Süleyman refused to be referred to hospital and to have the surgery, because of the mouth search practice imposed in prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, Akar Iqbal, a Syrian citizen prisoner in Kırşehir High Security Prison, was kept in a single room although he could not meet his needs alone due to physical disability, and that the materials needed for using the toilet were not given to him for 8 months on the grounds of lack of money in his account.

(10/005) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 30, 2024, that Grup Yorum member Vedat Doğan, who was on a hunger strike since April 3, 2024, demanding to be transferred from Kırşehir High-Security Prison to another prison, ended his hunger strike after his demand was accepted. It is reported that Grup Yorum member Rezzan Şengül, who was also on a hunger strike in Kırşehir High-Security Prison since 27 March 2024, ended the hunger strike after the release decision given at the trial of the case on 26 September 2024.

It is also stated in the news reports that 2 prisoners, Cem Dursun and Oktay Kelebek, who have been on a hunger strike since 24 February 2024 demanding to be transferred from Izmir Buca High-Security Prison to another prison, ended their hunger strike after their demands were accepted.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 September 2024 that, Şerif Mesutoğlu, a prisoner in Ankara Sincan High-Security Prison No 2, went on a hunger strike to demand a fair trial.

(10/006) Prisoner Whose Release was Postponed by the Prison Administration and Observation Board…

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, the release of İsmail Hakkı Tursun, a prisoner in Urfa High Security Prison No 2, who completed his life sentence of 30 years on 8 December 2022, was postponed for the fourth time by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (İGK) for 9 months. İsmail Hakkı Tursun’s release was postponed three times: on 8 December 2022 for 6 months and 5 days, on 7 June 2023 for 6 months and 5 days, and on 13 December 2023 for 9 months and 5 days.

(10/007) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan not Responded to…

It is learned that the appeal made on October 1, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

(10/008) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Kocaeli…

It is learned that 4 people (Sara Doğan, Nagehan Kurt, Lerzan Caner, Hasan Toğan) who wanted to march to Ankara demanding closure of Type Y and Type S prisons, were detained in the Gebze district of Kocaeli on September 30, 2024.

(10/009) Musicians Detained in Diyarbakır…

Zeynep Doğan, Gencay Morkoç and Yusuf Keleş, members of the music group Koma Hevra, were detained on September 30, 2024, on the allegations of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ for singing Kurdish songs at a concert in Diyarbakır on September 29, 2024, in solidarity with Mezopotamya Language and Culture Research Association (MED-DER) whose members were detained. 3 people were released on the same day after statement procedures at Diyarbakır Provincial Security Directorate.

(10/010) People Detained in Şırnak…

On 1 October 2024, 4 people were detained during house raids in the İdil district of Şırnak. The reason for the detention could not be learned. Names of the detainees: Murat Tekin, Hasibe Tekin, Sadiye Tekin, Mervan Tekin.

(10/011) Party Executive and Another Person Detained in Erzurum…

On 1 October 2024, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Erzurum provincial co-chair Ramazan Karakaş and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Karayazı district former co-chair Çetin Demir were detained in house raids in Erzurum through an investigation conducted by the Ağrı Public Prosecutor’s Office. The reason for the detention could not be learned.
