On 13 September 2024, Kerem Uzun, the driver of a motorbike in the Gebze district of Kocaeli province, lost his life in hospital after the police opened fire on the grounds of disobeying a stop warning. The police officer who opened fire and caused the death of Kerem Uzun was detained.

It is learned that the appeal made on September 13, 2024, to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s family and tutelary along with the families and tutelary of Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

4 people including Yaren Tuncer, former co-chair of Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), who were detained through an investigation by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on 10 September 2024, were referred to the criminal peace judgeship on 12 September 2024. The criminal peace judgeship ruled for the arrest of Yaren Tuncer on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and for the release of 3 other people (Meryem Yıldırım, Mustafa Furkan Özkan and Özge Doğan) on judicial control conditions.

The retrial of the case against Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Abdullah Zeydan, on the charges of ‘aiding an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’, was held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on September 12, 2024. Abdullah Zeydan did not attend the hearing. After defense hearings, the court adjourned the trial to 16 January 2025.

The first trial of the case against former CHP Izmir MP Tacettin Bayır, on the grounds of re-sharing a cartoon shared by former Republican People’s Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on social media, started on 12 September 2024 at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 3. After defense hearings, the court adjourned the trial to 21 November 2024.

The trial of the case against 46 people including Saturday Mothers and rights defenders, who were detained during the police intervention against the 700th week session of Saturday Mothers/People, was held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 21 on September 13, 2024. The indictment demands a sentence for 46 people on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to 10 January 2025.

The trial of the case against lawyer Gurbet Özbey, a member of Lawyers’ Association for Freedom (ÖHD), continued on 12 September 2024 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. The indictment demands a sentence for the lawyer on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to 3 October 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of 12 September 2024 that, a total of 6 contents on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://t24.com.tr (2 separate contents), https://www.evrensel.net, https://www.politikyol.com, https://www.birgun.net, on the grounds of violation of personal rights, were banned from access by Istanbul Criminal Peace Judgeship No 3 on 12 September 2024 and the content was ordered to be deleted.
It is learned from the news coverage of 12 September 2024 that, a total of 3 content on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.milligazete.com.tr, https://artigercek.com, about the deputy of the Communications Director of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, on the grounds of violation of personal rights, was banned from access by Istanbul Criminal Peace Judgeship No 10 on 12 September 2024, and the content was ordered to be deleted.
