(09/028) Person Who Lost His Life Due to a Racist Attack in Istanbul…
It is learned from the news coverage of September 2, 2024 that, criminal peace judgeship imposed a confidentiality order on the investigation file on the attack on 3 people from Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) who were having dinner in a restaurant in the Aksaray district of Istanbul on September 1, 2024, allegedly on the grounds of speaking Kurdish on the phone, which resulted in the death of Hakim Lokman and injury of 2 other people. It is also reported in the news that 7 people are detained in connection with the attack.
(09/029) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of 2 September 2024 that, Efe G. (16, m) and Hani K. (23, m) from Syria had a quarrel in İnegöl district of Bursa and Efe G. attacked Hani K. with a knife and Hani K. who was wounded lost his life in hospital. It is also reported in the news that Efe G. is detained and the investigation on the attack is ongoing.
Tuba Sert, a prisoner in the same prison, stated the following about the torture and ill-treatment she witnessed: ‘After this incident, the chief warden raided Zilan’s ward with male correction officers. The correction officers with batons and handcuffs in their hands closed all the windows and grills in the corridor and entered the ward. Here they insulted and threatened Zilan for hours. As prisoners, we wanted to go to the director against this situation, but they did not allow us. We are subjected to serious rights violations due to the practices of the chief warden and the director”.

It is learned from the news coverage of 3 September 2024 that, Abdulkadir Kuday, a prisoner in Istanbul Metris R Type Prison No 2 who has ALS, was subjected to ill-treatment of health workers at Istanbul Başakşehir Çam Sakura City Hospital where he was transferred on 22 August 2024.
Eda Önal, the lawyer of Abdulkadir Kuday, stated the following to the press: “Abdulkadir Kuday asked for water, they did not give it to him. They threw the food in front of him. He cannot fulfil his own needs on his own. So, the patient carers did not do his personal care and cleaning (…) The doctors told us that he was not given a companion because ‘the client did not accept the treatment’. However, when we asked this to Abdulkadir Kuday, he stated that he wanted to be treated but refused because of the ill-treatment he was subjected to during the treatment. He stated that he was treated inhumanely (…). He says he is going to die now. That’s why he wants a treatment process worthy of human dignity and to spend his last days with his family. We don’t have the chance to see him much anyway. We can see him for 15-20 minutes because he has difficulty in speaking”.
(09/031) Racist and Discriminatory Practice by Afyon Municipality…
It is learned from the news coverage of 2 September 2024 that, at the September meeting of Afyonkarahisar Municipality Assembly, the proposal to increase the marriage fee for refugees/asylum seekers by 24 times was accepted by majority vote of the assembly members.
In May 2024, Afyon Municipality decided in the municipal council to ‘increase the marriage fee for asylum seekers by 25 times to 10 thousand liras’, and the administrative court issued a stay of execution in the lawsuit filed by the International Refugee Rights Association for the cancellation of the decision.

12 people who were detained in the police intervention against the press statement held in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul on September 1, World Peace Day, on the grounds of chanting slogans in Kurdish and dancing halay, were arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on September 2, 2024, on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’.

It is learned from the news coverage of 2 September 2024 that, Eyüp Topal and Kemal Tığlı, members of All Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (TÜMSİAD), filed a criminal complaint against İsmail Arı, author of the book, Elif Akkaya, editor-in-chief of Tekin Publishing and Ayşegül Çakan, editor-in-chief of the book, on the grounds of various statements in the book “Menzil’in Kasası” written by journalist İsmail Arı and published by Tekin Publishing.
(09/034) Person on Trial for Her Statements in a Street Interview…
The first trial of the case against Dilruba Kayserilioğlu, for her statements in a street interview in Izmir, in which she criticised the ban of access imposed on Instagram, started on 3 September 2024 at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No 35. The court sentenced Dilruba Kayserilioğlu to 7 months and 15 days on the charge of ‘inciting people to hatred and hostility’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.
Dilruba Kayserilioğlu was arrested on 12 August 2024 on the allegations of ‘inciting the public to hatred and hostility’ and ‘insulting the President’ and was released on 29 August 2024 after her lawyers objected to her arrest.

It is learned from the news coverage of 2 September 2024 that, a total of 3 content on https://ankahaber.net, https://haber.sol.org.tr and https://www.gercekgundem.com related to bribery allegations at the Istanbul Courthouse was banned from access by Istanbul Criminal Peace Judgeship No 9 on 2 September 2024, on the grounds of violation of personal rights.
