(08/157) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence (MSB) announced on August 20, 2024, that 1 soldier (Muhammed Emin ÖNK) who was wounded in an explosion during the “Pençe-Kilit” operation in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on August 3, 2024, died.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 21, 2024, that 3 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the Qandil area of KRG on March 17, 2024.

(08/158) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 20, 2024, that Seyithan Yaman, a prisoner in Elazığ High-Security Prison No 2 was transferred to Erzincan High-Security Prison No 2 against his will on August 16, 2024, and has been kept in solitary room since then.

(08/159) Prisoners whose Release was Postponed by the Prison Administration and Observation Board…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 21, 2024, that, the release of Nevzat Akbulak, a prisoner in Elazığ High-Security Prison No 1, who completed his 12 years of imprisonment in October 2023, was postponed for the third time and extended for 6 more months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (İGK), on the grounds of ‘not being in good behavior’ for not accepting the remorse imposition. It is also reported in the news that Nevzat Akbulak’s release was postponed once for 3 months and once for 6 months by the İGK for the same reason.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 21, 2024, that the release of İlhan Sami Çomak, who was kept in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison No 5 and completed the execution of his life sentence, which corresponds to 30 years according to the law, was postponed for 3 months.

(08/160) Investigation Launched against a Poet…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 20, 2024, that poet Nevzat Çelik, who was called to the Provincial Security Directorate to give his official statement through the investigation against him for a social media post on the fires in Izmir that started on August 15, 2024, was released by the criminal peace judgeship on judicial control conditions with a ban on leaving the country.

Nevzat Çelik was detained on August 17, 2024, for the same social media post and was released the same day after his statement procedures at the police.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 20, 2024, that a total of 3 news reports on https://www.yenicaggazetesi.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net, and https://halktv.com.tr about the access ban on various news reports on President’s son Bilal Erdoğan, were banned from access by Istanbul Anadolu Criminal Peace Judgeship No 5 on August 20, 2024, on the grounds of violation of personal rights, and the content was ordered to be deleted.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 20, 2024, that 2 content on https://ifade.org.tr, related to the access ban on 14 content shared by Freedom of Expression Association (İFÖD), was banned from access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Istanbul Anadolu Criminal Peace Judgeship No 5 on August 20, 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 20, 2024, that a total of 3 news reports on https://www.yeniasir.com.tr, https://www.afyonturkeligazetesi.com, and https://www.kocaeligazetesi.com.tr about a company whose products were found to contain pork meat were banned from access with the decision of the Access Providers Association dated August 19, 2024, on the grounds that they contained the same content as the previously banned news reports.
