It is learned from the news coverage of June 25, 2024, that after a peaceful protest in Mersin on June 14, 2024, Munzur Can Erdoğan (21, m) was stopped by anonymous people and was subjected to racist and discriminatory threats and physical violence.
Munzur Can Erdoğan made the following statements about the violence he was subjected to: “They took me inside the car and kept beating me. They said they would do more and threatened me… I went to the hospital to get a report on the beatings and my statement was not taken at the hospital, then when I went to the police station by taxi to file a complaint, I was met with a sloppy attitude. ‘If you don’t know the license plate number of the vehicle, there is nothing we can do’ and even taking a statement was made difficult. I could not have recorded the license plate number during the incident anyway”.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 25, 2024, that E. B., a resident of Aksaray, was detained for his social media posts and was arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on the charges of ‘insulting the President’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ and ‘shooting in a residential area’.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 26, 2024, that through the investigation of Yozgat Public Prosecutor’s Office on the death of Okan Özgül, who was kept in Yozgat Boğazlıyan T Type Prison and was found dead in his ward on March 2, 2024, only 5 people were heard and a decision of ‘no prosecution’ was made on May 2, 2024.
(06/191) Journalist on Trial Due to Social Media Posts…
On June 25, 2024, the trial of the lawsuit filed against journalist Furkan Karabay due to a social media post he made on November 2, 2023, with the complaint of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s son Bilal Erdoğan continued at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 47. The indictment demands a sentence for the journalist on the charges of ‘slander’ and ‘insult’. The court decided to merge the current case with the ongoing case of the journalist at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 5 and adjourned the hearing to a later date.

The trial of the lawsuit filed against the Migration Monitoring Association (GÖÇİZ-DER) with the demand for closure continued on June 26, 2024, at Istanbul Bakırköy Civil Court of First Instance No 15. The court adjourned the hearing to October 11, 2024.

The trial of the case against village guard B. A. in relation to the abduction and qualified sexual assault of M. Ş. in the Başkale district of Van on August 15, 2023, continued on June 25, 2024, at Van Heavy Penal Court No 6. The prosecutor declared the final opinion on the case and demanded a sentence for the defendant village guard B. A. on the charge of ‘simple sexual assault’. The court adjourned the trial to July 9, 2024.

The trial of the case against 38 people through an investigation against Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) by the Tekirdağ Public Prosecutor’s Office continued on June 25, 2024, at Tekirdağ Heavy Penal Court No 2. The indictment demands a sentence for 38 people on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The court issued a compulsory appearance order for open witness E. F. and adjourned the hearing to November 26, 2024.
