It is learned from the news coverage of March 27, 2024, that a military operation was launched on March 24, 2024, against Tavşanlıtepe and Bazmar villages of Hazro district of Diyarbakır, and that the operations continued for 3 days, houses were raided and people were prevented from leaving the besieged villages.

Social anthropologist Prof. Dr. Nükhet Sirman, who was detained on March 23, 2024, in Istanbul and taken to Mersin on the grounds of an investigation against a person she had interviewed during her fieldwork in Mersin for Dissensus Research, an interdisciplinary research and design company she co-founded, was released by Mersin Criminal Peace Judgeship on March 26, 2024, on judicial control condition.

On March 27, 2024, at least 45 people were detained in house raids conducted by the police and military in Cizre and Silopi districts of Şırnak. The reason for the detentions could not be learned. The names of the detainees whose names were learned are Şehriban Ruvanas, Zeliha Oğuz, Süphan Ergün, Mizgin Kaya, Dilan Danker, Nurcan Ayas, Muhammed Yanar, Mustafa Biliç, Bedirhan Savcı, Elmas Kaşbaş, Serhat Bozkurt, Mevlüde Karaviş, Ahmet Kavçin, Mustafa Üşündü, Zilan Arık, Adem Al, Kadir Malgaz, Fatma Susur, Yusuf Susur, Eyde Kaşbaş, Muhammet Çelebi Taşdemir, Rehime Ateş, Kesire Narman, Salih Uca, Mizgin Gasır, İslam Öğet.

It is learned that 9 members of Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Youth Assembly were detained through an investigation of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office on March 27, 2024. The names of detainees are unknown.

On March 27, 2024, 7 people (Rızgar Güneş, Hasari Kılıç, Yasin Güneş, Mahmut Yolcu, Sabri Taş, Cemal Aslan, İbrahim Kaya) were detained in house raids in the Bozova district of Urfa. It is reported that material damage occurred in houses during house raids. The reason for the detention was not available. Detained 7 people were released the same day.

The trial of the case against Human Rights Association (IHD) co-chair Eren Keskin and Gülistan Yarkın, member of the Commission Against Racism and Discrimination, for their statements on the Armenian Genocide on April 24, 2021, was held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 51 on March 26, 2024. The indictment demands a sentence for human rights defenders on the charge of ‘degrading the Turkish Nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, the institutions and organs of the State’. After the prosecutor’s closing statement demanded a sentence for the human rights defenders, the court adjourned the trial to May 2, 2024, to allow for defences.

The final trial of the case against Çağlar Demirel, former Diyarbakır MP of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), on the allegations of insulting the President in a speech she made on July 1, 2016, was held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 5 on March 26, 2024. The court acquitted Çağlar Demirel.

The trial of the case against journalist Remzi Akkaya continued on March 26, 2024, at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. The indictment demands Remzi Akkaya be sentenced for ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The court decided to continue the detention of Remzi Akkaya and adjourned the trial to June 11, 2024.
Remzi Akkaya was detained on April 25, 2023, and arrested by the court on April 27, 2023.

The final hearing of the case against Erdem Avşar, Managing Editor of Yeniçağ Newspaper, upon the complaint of Serhat Albayrak, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors of Turkuvaz Media Group, for the news reports published on the website of the newspaper, was held on March 26, 2024, at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2. The court acquitted the journalist on the charge of ‘publicly insulting in a chain’ and sentenced him to 1 year and 15 days in prison for ‘slander’.

The final hearing of the case against journalist Dilan Esen, on the charge of ‘publicly insulting a public officer through duty’ for an article she wrote in Birgün Newspaper on August 12, 2022, was held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on March 26, 2024. The court sentenced the journalist to a 7080 TL fine.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 26, 2024, that Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office decided not to prosecute on the grounds of lack of evidence in the investigation against M.K., in relation to the verbal and physical assault of Rudaw TV representative and Southeastern Journalists Association member Maşallah Dekak and videographer Mehmet Kanevi, who were covering the Diyarbakır visit of DEVA Party chair Ali Babacan on January 12, 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 26, 2024, that members of Eskişehir Provincial Organization of Labour Party (EMEP) were prevented by members, executives and security guards of Türk Metal Union while distributing leaflets at the entrance of a factory as part of their election campaign.
