(07/048) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to “Male Violence Monitoring Report” of Bianet published on July 6, 2022, at least 32 women got killed by men in June 2022. It is also reported that at least 24 women were forced to sex work, 89 women were subjected to violence, 41 children were abused by men in June 2022.

(07/049) Labour Killings…

On July 6,2022, the Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 187 workers, including 10 women, 7 children, and 10 migrant workers lost their lives while working in June 2022. Accordingly, the number of workers who lost their lives in labour killings in the first six months of 2022 is 842.

(07/050) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Yusuf Gürler) who was injured in a traffic accident in Derecik district of Hakkari, lost his life on July 5, 2022.

(07/051) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 5, 2022 that, prisoners in a ward in Izmir Şakran Women’s Prison were forcibly taken to other wards and they were subjected to torture and ill-treatment at that time, and their personal belongings were damaged.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 6, 2022 that, Rıdvan Taş, a prisoner in Kayseri T Type Prison No. 2 was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers.

(07/052) Police Intervention to Pride March in Ankara…

The police intervened the Pride March in Ankara on July 5, 2022 and detained 46 people using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. It is learned that the police prevented journalists from recording before and during the intervention. It is reported that 2 journalists (Emel Vural and Aslı Alpar) were injured. Detained people are released on the same day.

It is reported that the police did not intervene the phobic groups gathering to prevent the Pride March.

(07/053) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Ankara on July 5, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

(07/054) The Case Against Former HDP MP…

The trial of the case against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, as per Article 301 of Turkish Penal Code, on the grounds of “degrading Turkish Nation, State of Turkish Republic, the Organs and Institutions of the State” with his expressions in the statement he made under custody on November 4, 2016, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No. 4 on July 6, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to September 21, 2022.

Based on the same expressions, a lawsuit has been filed against Sırrı Süreyya Önder at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No. 12 and the court has sentenced Önder to 10 months on the charge of “insulting the President”.

(07/055) DBP Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The first trial of the case against the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Party Assembly member Selahattin Aslan is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 4 on July 5, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Selahattin Aslan on the charges of “being an illegal organisation member” and “financing an illegal organisation”. Selahattin Aslan joined the trial and made defence declaration. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Selahattin Aslan and adjourned the trial to September 29, 2022. Selahattin Aslan was arrested on April 29, 2022.

(07/056) HDP Executives on Trial in Manisa…

The final trial of the case against Naile Gümüştaş and Hayri Bökü, district co-chairs of HDP in Turgutlu, is held at Manisa Heavy Penal Court No 3 on July 5, 2022. The court sentenced Naile Gümüştaş to 6 years and 3 months and Hayri Bökü to 6 years 10 months and 15 days on the charge of “being an illegal organisation member”. The court also decided to continue detention of Hayri Bökü.

Naile Gümüştaş and Hayri Bökü were arrested on February 14, 2022 and were arrested by the court on February 22, 2022. Naile Gümüştaş was released from prison after the trial held on June 23, 2022.

(07/057) Police Officers on Trial in Antalya…

The trial of the case against police officers Y. D. and U. Y. regarding the death of Murat Araç (19) is held at Gazipaşa Penal Court of First Instance on July 5, 2022. Murat Araç has lost his life after falling from the third floor of the Antalya Gazipaşa District Security Directorate where he was taken after being detained on December 4, 2017. The indictment demands 6 months to 2 years of sentence for 2 police officers on the charge of ‘abuse of power’. The court adjourned the trial to October 25, 2022.
