(05/117) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Selman Güler) died and 3 soldiers got wounded in an attack on May 13, 2022 in the “Claw-Lock” operation in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

(05/118) Person Died in Prison…

It is learned that Abdullah Ece (73), a prisoner in Izmir Kırıklar Prison who was admitted to a hospital after he was tested positive for Covid-19 and his condition gets worse on April 5, 2022, lost his life in hospital on May 14, 2022.

(05/119) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 13, 2022 that, 16 prisoners who were transferred to Yozgat T Type Prison No 2 to Antep H Type Prison under coercion in February, 2022; were being kept in solitary cells.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 16, 2022 that, in Ankara Sincan L Type Prison No 3, the administration did not give the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) former co-chair Sebahat Tuncel the book “Daughters of Kobane” which was sent to her, on the grounds of “security threat”. It is learned that Sebahat Tuncel’s appeals were also rejected.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 16, 2022 that, Cengiz Halis Çelik, an ill prisoner in Istanbul Silivri Prison, was taken to Istanbul Research and Training Hospital to have an operation for bladder cancer, was not operated and treated on the grounds of ‘no ward for prisoners’.

(05/121) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on May 13, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(05/122) Abducted Person in Istanbul…

It is learned that Umut Doğan, central executive board member of the United Revolutionary Party, was abducted by persons alleged to be police officers after he participated in a commemoration in Istanbul on May 14, 2022, and was released on the same day.

(05/123) Police Intervention to Funeral in Tunceli…

The police prevented the funeral service in Tunceli on May 14, 2022 for Peace Group member and politician Aysel Doğan who lost her life on May 11, 2022 in Germany. It is learned that the police used pressurized water and teargas to intervene the sit-in to protest that her body was not allowed to be taken to her family’s house.

4 people are detained in police interventions and 3 of them are released by the court on judicial control conditions on May 16, 2022. 1 person (Mazlum Coşkun) is arrested on the charge of ‘resisting to police’.

It is learned that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Tunceli MP Alican Önlü and journalist Ozan Yıldırım were injured in the intervention. It is reported that Alican Önlü was not given a medical report evidencing the violence, as the chief physician of the hospital instructed so.

(05/124) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on May 13, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(05/125) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration about hunger strikes in prisons, which was held outside of Cumhuriyet newspaper’s building in Ankara on May 13, 2022; and detained 3 people by using physical violence. Detained people are released on the same day.

(05/126) Police Prevention to a Protest in Adana…

The police prevented the march of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) to the Incirlik Air Base in Adana on May 15, 2022. It is learned that the group had a press declaration upon police prevention.

(05/127) Police Prevention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police prevented the march as a part of Kurdish Language Festival, in Kartal district of Istanbul on May 15, 2022. It is learned that the group had a sit-in protest upon police prevention.

(05/128) Police Prevention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police prevented the press declaration which was to be held in front of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul on May 13, 2022, before the trial of the case against 19 people who were detained by the police intervening the Pride March in Istanbul in 2021.

(05/129) Detained Human Rights Defender and Other Person….

The Human Rights Association (İHD) central executive board member Metin Kılavuz and DBP Diyarbakır former provincial co-chair Hafize İpek, who have been detained through an Ankara based “Kobanê investigation” and were released; are detained once again through the same investigation in Diyarbakır on May 15, 2022.

(05/130) Former HDP Co-Chair on Trial…

Former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘targeting public officials involved in the fight against terrorism’ and was acquitted on the charge of ‘threat by taking advantage of the power to invoke fear derived from a criminal organisation’ in the case at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 25, for his expressions about Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor of the time. The local court’s verdict was overturned by the Penal Chamber No 21 of Ankara Regional Court of Justice. The retrial of the case is held on May 13, 2022. Selahattin Demirtaş and his lawyers did not attend the trial on excuse. The court adjourned the trial to June 13, 2022.

(05/131) People on Trial for Participating in Pride March in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 19 people who were detained by physical violence in the police intervention against the Pride March in Istanbul in 2021, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 60 on May 13, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 23, 2022.

(05/132) People on Trial for Participating in Protest in Izmir…

The trial of the case against 18 people for participating in the protest against Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, is held at Izmir Bayraklı Penal Court of First Instance No 44 on May 13, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial.

(05/133) DİAYDER Case…

The trial of the case against 23 members and executives of DIAYDER (Religious Scholars Solidarity Association) including 4 arrestees, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14 on May 13, 2022.

Arrested defendants joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of 4 people and adjourned the trial to June 17, 2022.

(05/134) Association Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Women’s Academy member Figen Aras through the investigation against Rosa Women’s Association is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 on May 13, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence for Figen Aras on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

After defence hearings the court decided to continue judicial control conditions for Figen Aras and adjourned the trial to September 21, 2022. Figen Aras was detained on April 5, 2021 and was arrested on April 8, 2021. The court has released her at the first trial on September 22, 2021.

(05/135) DEVA Party Member on Trial…

The trial of the case against the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) founder member Metin Gürcan was held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 26 on May 11, 2022, and the court has released him from prison. It is learned that as the prosecutor’s objection to the court’s verdict was accepted, Metin Gürcan is detained once again on May 13, 2022 and is arrested by the court.

(05/136) Police Officers on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 3 police officers (K. A., N. D. and Y. Ş.) on the grounds of committing violence to journalist Beyza Kural while she was reporting on an incident, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 3 on May 13, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence for the defendant police officers on the charge of ‘violation of freedom of work and labour’. The Constitutional Court decided on Beyza Kural’s individual appeal on February 18, 2021 and ruled that ban of treatment against human dignity, and freedom of expression and freedom of press were violated. The court has also ruled that an investigation should be carried on in order to end the results and 15,000 Turkish Liras should be paid to Beyza Kural as immaterial compensation.

After hearing defence and complainant declarations the court adjourned the trial to September 30, 2022.

(05/137) Ban of Events in Van and Tunceli…

Van Governorate made a declaration on May 13, 2022 and announced that, all open-door meetings and demonstrations are banned for 15 days as of May 14, 2022. It is also announced that press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets and so on will be subjected to the local authority’s permission. All events are banned in Van for 2014 days since November 21, 2016.

Tunceli Governorate made a declaration on May 13, 2022 and announced that all outdoor meetings, demonstrations, assemblies, protests, sit-in protests, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, concerts, festivals, distributing leaflets, hanging banners, firing and carrying torches, conferences, panel talks and so on are subjected to the local authority’s permission for 7 days as of May 14, 2022.

(05/138) Ban of Concert in Kocaeli…

It is learned that the concert of Aynur Doğan which was to be held in Derince district of Kocaeli, is cancelled by the municipality on the grounds that “it was found inappropriate as a result of detailed examination” on May 15, 2022.

(05/139) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On May 13, 2022, 7 people are detained in Ankara.

(05/140) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 7 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 1,534 as of May 13, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 5 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 1,407 as of May 14, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 10 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 1,154 as of May 15, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,900 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 15,054,322 as of May 15, 2022.
