(11/196) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 18, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit him was not responded.

(11/197) Detained Former Co-Mayor in Edirne…

On November 18, 2021, Hüseyin Yuka, former the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-mayor of Kömür town of Adıyaman and Abuzer A. who were detained by the Greece police at the Turkish border and were sent back to Turkey, are detained in Edirne. It is learned that 2 people were then taken to Adıyaman.

(11/198) Detained SGDF Executive in Izmir…

Gamze Toprak, central executive board member of the Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) is detained after a general information gathering control in Izmir on November 18, 2021. Gamze Toprak is released after statement procedures at the police on the same day.

(11/199) Detained Syrian Musician in Urfa…

Syrian musician Omar Souleyman who was detained on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ in Urfa on November 17, 2021, is released on November 18, 2021. It is learned from the news reports that, Omar Souleyman’s passport is restricted by the governorate on the grounds of “jeopardizing public safety” although there is no court order, and that he was sent to a refugee camp in Harran.

(11/200) Detained HDP Members in Tekirdağ…

HDP’s provincial co-chair Cahit Direk and 4 children who were detained by the police raiding HDP’s district office and several houses in Çerkezköy district of Tekirdağ on November 17, 2021, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on November 18, 2021.

(11/201) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The retrial of the case against Reyhan Çapan, executive editor of Özgür Gündem newspaper and Eren Keskin, manager editor and co-chair of the Human Rights Association (IHD), for the news reports on Berkin Elvan, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on November 18, 2021. Eren Keskin and Reyhan Çapan were sentenced to 10,461 Turkish Liras but the court’s verdict was reversed by the Court of Cassation.

The trial is adjourned due to absence on leave of the chief judge.

(11/202) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporters Sadık Topaloğlu and Sadiye Eser is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22 on November 18, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 2 journalists on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The court decided to continue the ban on leaving the country for 2 journalists, decided to summon the witness and adjourned the trial to January 11, 2022.

The final trial of the case against journalist Oktay Candemir, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media’ is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 5 on November 18, 2021. The court acquitted Oktay Candemir.

(11/204) Journalist on Trial in Tekirdağ…

The final trial of the case against Yakup Önal, executive editor of Şarköy’ün Sesi newspaper, for the news reports about Şarköy district mayor, is held at Tekirdağ Şarköy Penal Court of First Instance on November 18, 2021. The court acquitted Yakup Önal.

(11/205) French Journalists and Cartoonist on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against three executives and one cartoonist of France-based Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine (publishing director Julin Serignac, executive editor Gerard Biard, editor-in-chief Laurent Sourisseau and cartoonist Alice Petit), for a cartoon about President Erdoğan on the cover page of the magazine, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on November 18, 2021.

The court accepted the request of the President’s lawyers for intervening in the case and adjourned the trial to June 1, 2022.

(11/206) Human Rights Defender and Other People on Trial for ‘Insulting the President’ in Izmir…

The first trial of the case against 3 people including rights defender Aytül Uçar, medical secretary of the HRFT in Izmir, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ which was to be held at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No 41 on November 18, 2021, is adjourned due to absence with leave of the chief judge. 3 people (Aytül Uçar, Emine Akbaba and İrem Çelikbaş) have been detained by the police intervening the protest against the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University, held in Izmir on February 3, 2021.

(11/207) Turkish Medical Association Board Member on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Honorary Board member and HRFT physician Şeyhmus Gökalp is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 on November 19, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence from 7 years and 6 months up to 15 years for Şeyhmus Gökalp on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ for participating in Democratic Society Congress (DTK) activities.

The court acquitted Şeyhmus Gökalp.

(11/208) The Case Against Former HDP MP…

The trial of the case against Leyla Güven, HDP’s former Hakkari MP who has been stripped of MP status and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair, for saying “Dear Öcalan” in a speech she gave, is held at Hakkari Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on November 18, 2021. Leyla Güven did not join the trial. The court decided to consolidate the case with another case at Hakkari Penal Court of First Instance No 2.

(11/209) HDP MP and Former MPs on Trial…

The trial of the case against HDP’s Diyarbakır MP İmam Taşçıer and former MPs İdris Baluken and Çağlar Demirel, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in their speeches; is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 12 on November 18, 2021.

After defence hearing the court adjourned the trial to April 16, 2022.

(11/210) ESP Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Beycan Taşkıran, deputy co-chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on November 18, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Beycan Taşkıran on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The court adjourned the trial to February 14, 2022.

(11/211) HDP Executives on Trial in Osmaniye…

The final trial of the case against Kadriye Tören and Ali Coşkun, provincial co-chairs of HDP, is held at Osmaniye Heavy Penal Court No 2 on November 18, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 2 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The court acquitted 2 people.

Kadriye Tören and Ali Coşkun were detained on November 4, 2020 and were arrested on November 9, 2020. They were released from prison at the first trial held on May 18, 2021.

(11/212) Prisoner on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against Necla Yıldız, a prisoner in Ankara Sincan Women’s Closed Prison, for participating in the hunger strike to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 32 on November 18, 2021.

Necla Yıldız joined the trial and made her defence in Kurdish. After defence hearings the court sentenced Necla Yıldız to 7 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(11/213) Investigation in Tunceli…

It is learned that Tunceli Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the leaflet about Seyit Rıza, which was distributed by Dersim Labour and Democracy Platform on the anniversary of his execution. It is learned that Orhan Çelebi, Akpazar town co-mayor who was replaced by a trustee, made his official statement through the investigation on November 18, 2021.

(11/214) Ban of Event in Tunceli…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 18, 2021that Yenigün Women’s Solidarity Association’s application for opening public stands at 3 different points in the city, for 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, is refused by Tunceli Governorate on the grounds of Covid-19 pandemic.

(11/215) Curfew in Bitlis…

Bitlis Governorate made a declaration on November 18, 2021 and announced curfew in 13 villages of the central district as of 17.00 on November 18, 2021 until a further notice.

The villages under curfew are: Ziyaret, Esen, Kayadağ, Karbastı, Dilek, Sarpkaya, Kaşak, Taşlıdere, Ocakbaşı, Tolgalı, Sivrice, Açıkalan and Salman.

(11/216) Police Raid to Journalist’s House…

It is learned that Jinnews agency reporter Hikmet Tunç’s house in Edremit district of Van is raided by the police on the grounds of ‘being informed on weapons and bombs in the house’ on November 18, 2021. It is reported that nobody was detained.

(11/217) Covid-19 PAndemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 226 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 22,234 as of November 18, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 74,428 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 8,503,220 as of November 18, 2021.

It is learned that 2 health workers (pharmacist Çiçek Güler in Adana and doctor Metin Gürel in Antalya) lost their lives due to Covid-19.
