(06/288) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 28, 2021 that, 2 HPG militants died in the air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Şarbajar area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 19, 2021.

(06/289) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 28, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

 (06/290) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the sit-in protest in Bakırköy Square of Istanbul on June 28, 2021, organized by public employees to demand their jobs back from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 1 person (Nursel Tanrıverdi). Nursel Tanrıverdi is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(06/291) Detained DTK Member in Diyarbakır…

Nuri Özdemir, executive board member of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) who was detained in Diyarbakır on June 23, 2021, is released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on June 28, 2021.

(06/292) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Hatice Şahin, reporter of Yeni Yaşam newspaper, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on June 28, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Hatice Şahin on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The court adjourned the trial to October 11, 2021.

(06/293) Students on Trial for Participating in a Protest in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 12 students of Boğaziçi University, who have been detained for carrying a “rainbow flag” in a protest against the new rector appointed by President, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on June 28, 2021.

The students joined the trial and made their defence declarations. After defence hearings the court decided to lift the judicial control conditions for 12 people and adjourned the trial to October 13, 2021.

(06/294) Dargeçit JİTEM Case…

The case against 18 people, for forced disappearance of 8 people including 3 children who were detained in Dargeçit district of Mardin between October 29, 2015 and March 8, 1996; and of special sergeant Bilal Batır, who was alleged to inform families of those disappeared forcefully, is held on Adıyaman Heavy Penal Court No 1 on the charge of ‘intentional killing’ on June 28, 2021. It is learned that the judges of the court board were replaced for the sixth time. The court adjourned the trial to October 11, 2021.

(06/295) Metin Lokumcu Case…

The trial of the case against 13 police officers including provincial security director of Artvin and district security director of Hopa, for death of Metin Lokumcu is held at Trabzon Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on June 28, 2021. Metin Lokumcu has lost his life due to excessive use of chemical gas by the police intervening to a press declaration in Hopa district of Artvin on May 31, 2021.

The case was first opened at Hopa Penal Court of First Instance, but then the Court of Cassation decided to transfer the case to Trabzon on the grounds of ‘security reasons’. The indictment demands sentence up to 6 years for police officers on the charge of ‘reckless killing’.

The court rejected intervention demands of Antep Bar Association and Green Artvin Association. Following defence and complainant declarations and witness hearings the court decided to send the case to a heavy penal court on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction.

(06/296) Prevention of Investigation Against Police Officers…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 28, 2021 that, Adana Regional Administrative Court has rejected the appeal of Ahmet Atakan’s family in relation to the disallowance decision of Hatay Governorate’s Office, for investigation of police officers. Ahmet Atakan has lost his life after being hit by a gas canister fired by the police during Gezi Park protests in Hatay in 2013. Hatay Governorate’s office rejected to permit 7 police officers to be investigated by Hatay Public Prosecutor’s Office, about death of Ahmet Atakan. It is learned that Ahmet Atakan’s family lawyers will appeal to the Constitutional Court.

(06/297) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 58 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 431 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on June 28, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 5,283.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 49,634 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,414,310 as of June 28, 2021.
