(09/067) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration in Sakarya Street of Ankara on September 7, 2020, of public employers who had been dismissed from their jobs by state of emergency decrees and detained 3 people (Cemal Yıldırım, Muhammet Semih Karaoğlu and Resul Kalyoncu) by using physical violence.

(09/068) Police Intervention to a Protest in Tunceli…

The police intervened the sit-in protest of family members of Gülistan Doku, at Seyit Rıza Square of Tunceli on September 7, 2020; and detained 2 people (Gülistan Doku’s mother Bedriye Doku and sister Aygül Doku) by using physical violence. Gülistan Doku, who is a student of Munzur University, has gone missing for 247 days, and her family demands search operations for her should be continued. It is learned that Aygül Doku got a medical report evidencing the physical violence she has been subjected during police intervention. Detained 2 people are released on the same day after statement procedures.

(09/069) People Detained and Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment of Police in Şırnak…

On September 7, 2020, 3 people (İbrahim Kızılkaya, Resul Vesek and Abdulmütalip Tetik) are detained in house raids in Cizre district of Şırnak. The surveillance camera records of Abdulmütalip Tetik’s house which are covered by media, shows special operations police officers with long barrelled weapons and snow masks on their faces raiding the house, forcing Kahraman Tetik, the person who opens the door, to knee down at the door and a police officer kicking him at his waist while another police officer getting out of the house and kicking him at his back.

(09/070) Journalist Assaulted and Threatened in Elazığ…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 7, 2020 that, Efraim Gündem, executive director of local Haberkent newspaper in Elazığ, was subjected to assault of a person named T. A. and another person with him, and was threatened by gun. It is claimed in the news reports that Justice and Development Party (AKP) Elazığ mayor Şahin Şerifoğulları has sent these two people to talk with Efraim Gündem about his critical news reports about municipality.

(09/071) Detained Journalist in Van…

Journalist Oktay Candemir is detained in Van on September 7, 2020, on the grounds of ‘insulting the memory of a person’ in his social media post about “Resurrection Ertuğrul” TV series of state channel TRT. Oktay Candemir is released on judicial control conditions on the same day.

(09/072) Reina Massacre Case…

The final trial of the case known as “Reina Massacre Case”, against 58 people including 18 arrestees for the armoured attack to a night club in Beşiktaş district of Istanbul on January 1, 2017 where 39 people died, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 27 on September 7, 2020.

The court sentenced the assaulter Abdulkadir Masharipov to heavy life imprisonment for 40 times, to 1368 years and to a fine of 375,000 thousand Turkish Liras on the charges of ‘intentional killing’ (of 39 people), ‘attempt to demolish the constitutional order’, ‘attempt to intentional killing’ (of 79 people) and ‘possessing unregistered firearm’. The court sentenced İlyas Mamaşaripov to 1432 years on the charge of aiding Abdulkadir Masharipov, and to 20 years on the charge of ‘violating the constitution’; and sentenced 44 people to jail penalties from 6 years and 3 months to 12 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court acquitted 11 people and separated the case against 1 person.

(09/073) Association Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The first trial of the case against Rosa Women’s Association member Gülistan Nazlıer is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on September 7, 2020. The court decided to release Gülistan Nazlıer with a ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to November 18, 2020. Gülistan Nazlıer was detained on June 7, 2020 and was arrested on June 8, 2020.

(09/074) HDP and DBP Members and Executives on Trial in Mardin…

The trial of the case against Democratic Regions Party (DBP) provincial co-chairs Leyla Bozkurt and Şeyhmuz Sun, HDP Party Assembly members Alaattin Semir Zuğurli and Sedat Ay, and HDP provincial co-chair Ali Sincar is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4 on September 7, 2020. The court decided to release Leyla Bozkurt, Şehmuz Sun and Sedat Ay on judicial control conditions and to continue detention of Ali Sincar and Alaattin Semir Zuğurli; and adjourned the trial to November 2, 2020.

(09/075) People on Trial for Protesting Mayor in Ankara…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 7, 2020 that jail penalties given by Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 24 to 2 people (Neslihan Uyanık and Nebiye Merttürk) for protesting Melih Gökçek, former mayor of Ankara, is reversed by the Supreme Court. 2 people were charged with ‘threat’ and ‘insult’ for throwing eggs at Melih Gökçek on June 2, 2012, to protest his declarations about abortion and destruction of houses in Dikmen Valley; and they were sentenced to 2 years 7 months and 20 days each. The retrial will begin on January 20, 2021.

It is learned that a news report on Bahçelievler Municipality tender for food-aid packages which was published on https://www.birgun.net/ website is banned to access by Küçükçekmece Penal Court of Peace No 1 on August 26, 2020.

It is learned that news reports confiscation of the credit which was given to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality for subway project, published on https://www.sol.org.tr/https://www.gercekgundem.com/ and http://www.krttv.com.tr/ websites are banned to access by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 3 on August 20, 2020.

(09/077) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 57 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,703 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on September 7, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 6,730 and total number of confirmed cases is 281,509 as of September 7, 2020.

Diyarbakır Health Platform declared on September 7, 2020 that 7 health workers lost their lives due to Covid-19 pandemic in Diyarbakır. Ministry of Health has declared on September 2, 2020 that 29,865 health workers got infected with Covid-19 while 52 of them lost their lives.

Education and Science Workers’ Union (Eğitim-Sen) made a declaration on September 7, 2020 and announced that, according to data received by union headquarters, Covid-19 cases were seen in 172 schools in Turkey.
