We aimed to determine the types of torture and violations in prisons, who were targeted, and what should be done about the physical and psychological consequences and prevention of violations. Of the 4282 applicants recorded in the database by the treatment teams of the HRFT’s 5 representative offices between 1.1.2018-31.12.2022, 1993 applicants had a history of imprisonment in Turkey. Among the torture methods and violations experienced, insult and humiliation (74.4%), prevention of access to health (72.1%), prevention/restriction of printed publications (65.6%), inadequate and inappropriate nutrition (63.8%) were the most common. 87.1% of the violations were reported under the heading of fundamental rights, 81.4% under the heading of social rights, and 77.3% under the heading of insult and threats. In terms of gender identity, men mentioned torture at a higher rate than women.
