This study explores the experiences of women and LGBTI+ individuals in HRFT applications between 2020-2022. A descriptive study analyzed data from 2510 applicants during the specified period. Women (50.6%) and men (44,8%) were most frequently tortured in detention, while 67.1% of LGBTI+ persons were subjected to torture during social demonstrations. Physical sexual harassment was more common among women and LGBTI+ applicants. The rate of obtaining a forensic report was higher in LGBTI+. Conclusion: Presenting acts of torture and ill-treatment at a descriptive level according to gender identities would raise awareness on discrimination and marginalization behaviors, support treatment and reparation processes, and provide effective interventions.
This study was presented at 20th Forensic Science Congress on 2-3 November 2023.
