Electroshock Weapon and Exposure to Multiple Torture (Case Presentation) – [2020]

Electroshock Weapon and Exposure to Multiple Torture (Case Presentation) - [2020]

In recent years, new weapons developed to incapacitate violent individuals have begun to be widely used by states. The story recounts how police officers broke down the doors with a ram in the middle of the night, physically assaulted the victim and his mother, and after immobilizing the victim with plastic handcuffs, administered electric shocks to different parts of his body using an electric shock weapon. Assessments conducted in accordance with the ethical principles and professional standards outlined in the Istanbul Protocol are crucial for clarifying allegations of torture allegedly committed using these new devices and for preventing torture.

This study was presented at the 17th Forensic Medicine Congress, held online on November 12-15, 2020.
