Today the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT – TİHV) posted a social media message calling for an end to the blockade against Gaza. “We want to make it clear that there can be no justification for such a blockade and aggression, including Hamas’ unacceptable acts of terrorism targeting civilians,” said HRFT. The following was stated in TİHV’s message:
12 October 2023
A profound humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Gaza. For the first time in recent history, a government representative (Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant) used the unacceptable phrase “We are fighting against human animals” and announced a complete blockade on Gaza – including an embargo on food, water, electricity and fuel.
It is a deep shame for each and every one of us that such a statement, which completely disregards the dignity and value of every human, can be made in 2023.
We want to make it clear that there can be no justification for such a blockade and aggression, including Hamas’ unacceptable acts of terrorism targeting civilians.
For the sake of human dignity, it is imperative to make effective efforts, including the mobilization of international mechanisms, to immediately end this inhumane total blockade on Gaza, home to more than 2 million people, most of them children.
Human Rights Foundation of Turkey would like to state again that we, together with our friends in Palestine and Israel, will further strengthen our efforts to end the deep suffering.
