(09/065) Child Subjected to Physical Violence of the Police in Elazığ…
It is learned from the news coverage of September 9, 2025 that, a child in Elazığ was subjected to physical violence of another child’s father, a police officer, with whom he had a quarrel while playing in the park.
Elazığ Governorate made a declaration and announced that a judicial and administrative investigation is initiated against the police officer and that the police officer is suspended from duty.

On September 9, 2025, 6 people including Yapı Yol İş Union President Mustafa Adnan Akyol, General Organizing Secretary Barış Kaya, Headquarters Executive Cabir Yeşildal and General Organizing Secretary Barış Kaya were detained in house raids in Antakya, Adana and Istanbul. The reason for detention could not be learned.

The retrial of the case against Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Turkey Representative Erol Önderoğlu, writer Ahmet Nesin, former President of Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Central Council and Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) board member Prof. Dr. Şebnem Korur Fincancı, for participating in the “Editor-in-Chief on Watch” campaign to support Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13. The acquittal verdict of the case at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 is reversed by Criminal Chamber No 3 of Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals on November 1, 2020 and the retrial of the case is held on September 9, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for 3 people on the charges of ‘inciting to commit crime’, ‘praising crime and offender’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to December 25, 2025.

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against journalist Furkan Karabay upon the complaint of the President’s former lawyer was held on September 9, 2025 at Istanbul 3rd Civil Court of First Instance. The court sentenced Furkan Karabay to pay 35.000 TL non-pecuniary damages.

It is learned that an investigation was initiated against journalist Tolga Şardan for his news reports on the alleged theft of passwords of electronic signature holders. On September 8, 2025, Tolga Şardan went to Ankara courthouse accompanied by the police and was released by the criminal court of peace with a ban on leaving the country.
(09/070) Lawyer on Trial in Diyarbakır
The trial of the case against lawyer Necat Çiçek, executive board member of Lawyers’ Association for Freedom (ÖHD) Diyarbakır branch, continued on September 9, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. The indictment demands sentence for the lawyer on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court adjourned the trial to November 25, 2025.

It is learned from news coverage of September 9, 2025 that Istanbul Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against 12 people for the slogans shouted during the protest against the 17th International Defence Industry Fair, which is allegedly attended by companies supplying arms, military ammunition and military technology to Israel. The indictment demands sentence for 12 people on the charge of ‘insulting the President’.
1 of 8 people who were detained in relation to the protest was arrested on July 23, 2025. 7 people were released, 1 on house confinement and 6 on judicial control conditions.
(09/072) Party Executives Were Not Allowed to Enter CHP Provincial Office in Istanbul
It is learned from the news coverage of September 9, 2025 that, after Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul provincial chairperson was suspended by a court decision and Gürsel Tekin was appointed as provincial chairman, a list of 30 people was given to the police by Gürsel Tekin and the police did not allow party members and executives other than this list to enter the provincial office.

On September 9, 2025, 16 people including police officers are detained in operations covering 14 cities (Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Ardahan, Bartın, Bursa, Düzce, Hatay, İzmir, Kilis, Mersin, Mardin, Osmaniye and Tekirdağ) through an Istanbul based investigation.

2 people who were detained on September 5, 2025 through an Istanbul based investigation against ASSAN Group, are arrested by the criminal court of peace on September 8, 2025 due to ‘being in contact with an illegal organization’ and ‘military espionage’. 1 person was released on judicial control conditions.
