(09/078) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 8, 2022 that, Ali Haydar Ildız, a prisoner in Muğla Bodrum S Type Prison was being kept in a solitary cell for 5 months and was prevented from his cultural and social rights.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 9, 2022 that, 15 prisoners in Samsun Bafra T Type Prison were taken from their wards and put in solitary cells. It is also stated in the news reports that personal belongings of prisoners such as books, notebooks, pens and clothes, were seized by the correction officers.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 9, 2022 that, Şemsettin Kargılı, a prisoner in Antep H Type Prison was not released despite of the medical report stating 89 percent of disability given by Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital and was not receiving treatment.

(09/080) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on September 9, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(09/081) Police Interventions to Protests in Ankara…

The police blockaded the headquarters of the Education and Science Workers’ Union (Egitim-Sen) union before the press declaration to be made in front of the Ministry of National Education on September 8, 2022 to demand the withdrawal of the regulation on the Teaching Profession Law. It is learned that the police also prevented people who wanted to come together in front of the ministry building in Kızılay.

The police blockaded the Education and Science Employees’ Union (Egitim-Is) building before the press statement to be made by in front of the Ministry of National Education for the same reason on September 9, 2022, and prevented those who wanted to join the protest.

(09/082) Threat to the Church in Malatya…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 8, 2022, that Salvation Churches Association Malatya Representative and staff Vedat Serin filed a criminal complaint to the prosecutor’s office regarding threats against the church on September 5, 2022. It is learned that a person (T. A.) was detained through the investigation on the issue and he was released by the court on judicial control conditions on September 8, 2022. Malatya Governorate’s Office made a statement on September 9, 2022, and said that physical team and close protection measures have been taken for church administrators.

(09/083) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporters Sadık Topaloğlu and Sadiye Eser is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on September 8, 2022. The court sentenced 2 journalists to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The trial of the case against Birgün newspaper’s editor Mehmet Emin Kurnaz, on the grounds of insulting the President and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chair in a news report, is held on September 8, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to October 20, 2022.

(09/085) Lawyers on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case on the grounds of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’ against 44 lawyers who have been detained by the police using physical violence to intervene in the press declaration in front of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul during Gezi Park protests in 2013, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 52 on September 8, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to March 21, 2023.

(09/086) Former Co-Mayor on Trial in Van…

The trial of the case against HDP Democratic Local Authorities Board member and former Edremit district co-mayor Sevil Rojbin Çetin is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 2 on September 8, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence for Sevil Rojbin Çetin on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Sevil Rojbin Çetin joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Sevil Rojbin Çetin and adjourned the trial to October 27, 2022.

Sevil Rojbin Çetin was detained on June 26, 2020 in Diyarbakır and was arrested on July 7, 2020.

(09/087) Police Raid to Magazine Office in Istanbul…

On September 6, 2022 the police raided the office of Halk Okulu magazine in Istanbul on September 6, 2022 and detained 3 people. 2 of them (Yılmaz Viraner, Oktay Kelebek) are arrested by the court on September 8, 2022 while 1 person (Filiz Bap) is released.
