(11/078) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 8, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Haftanin area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 17, 2022.

(11/079) Asylum Seekers Died in Bursa…

On November 8, 2022, 9 people including 8 children, lost their lives in the fire in a house where Syrian asylum seekers lived in Yıldırım district of Bursa.

(11/080) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police and private security guards intervened in the people who wanted to enter Ankara Metropolitan Municipality city hall to follow the city council meeting, after the press statement made in front of the municipality building on November 8, 2022 against the road project through the Middle East Technical University (METU) forest; and detained 7 people using physical violence. It is also learned that during the intervention, the police forcibly deleted the footage recorded by a journalist and committed physical violence on 2 journalists.

(11/081) Arrested Union Executive in Istanbul…

Bread Producers Union chair Cihan Kolivar, was detained in Istanbul on November 8, 2022, on the grounds of “degrading the Turkish nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the judicial organs of the state” in accordance with the Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, by his words “Bread is the basic food of stupid societies. Since our society eat full of bread, we have such rulers in power for 20 years”. Cihan Kolivar was arrested by the court on the charge of “insulting the President” in a social media post on November 9, 2022.

(11/082) Detained HDP Members and Executives in Istanbul…

It is learned that Koray Türkay, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Kadıköy district co-chair, was detained at Kadıköy Port on November 6, 2022 as he was going to participate in the march in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, regarding the allegations of chemical weapon usage in the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 8, 2022 that, 3 people including HDP executives were detained for distributing leaflets about the same march, in Sultangazi district of Istanbul and that 1 of them (Müslüm Kılıç) was arrested by the court while 2 others were released on judicial control conditions. It is reported that 1 person who was detained through the same investigation because having the same name, was released.

(11/083) Journalists, Lawyers and ESP Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 23 people including lawyers Sezin Uçar, Özlem Gümüştaş and Gülhan Kaya from Law Office of the Oppressed; Etkin News Agency news editor İsminaz Temel and reporter Havva Cuştan, and members and executives of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 27 on November 8, 2022. The court rejected to lift judicial control conditions and adjourned the trial to March 2, 2023.

(11/084) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against Cumhuriyet newspaper editor-in-chief Serkan Ozan, responsible editor-in-chief Olcay Büyüktaş Akça, internet news director Ozan Yurtoğlu and reporter Hazal Ocak, for the news report titled “Bilal Erdoğan’s lucky friend” published in Cumhuriyet newspaper is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on November 8, 2022. The court sentenced Serkan Ozan, Olcay Büyüktaş Akça, Ozan Yurtoğlu and Hazal Ocak to 2,180 Turkish Liras each on the charge of ‘insult’.

(10/085) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against Demokratik Modernite magazine executive editor Ramazan Yurttapan, editor Haydar Ergül, and writers Nazan Üstündağ, Cihan Doğan and Musa Şanak, on the charge of ‘publicly degrading the Turkish Nation’ is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No.  2 on November 8, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to March 16, 2023.

(11/086) People on Trial in Van…

The final trial of the case against 23 people, through an investigation against the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No. 5 on November 8, 2022. The court sentenced 21 people (Hakan Demir, Abdulsettar Güneş, Ahmet Kaya, Ayfer Gelibolu, Baha Soyyiğit, Bazi Aslan, Beritan Tayan, Cemil Duman, Çetin Uyar, Medine Tufan, Mehmet Ali Sönmez, Ramazan Duman, Songül Taş, Elif Yiğit Akkuş, Fevzi Çelenk, Gülay Yılmaz, Gürsel Yamaç, Hamdi Bayhan, Hatice Toklu İçten, İbrahim Irmak and Kaniye Şeker) to 6 years and 3 months each on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and acquitted 2 people.

(11/087) Children on Trial in Malatya…

The final trial of the case against 2 children [M. D. (17), E. D. (15)] on the grounds that they attacked an Atatürk bust in Yeşilyurt district of Malatya on February 9, 2022, is held at Malatya Juvenile Court on November 8, 2022. The court sentenced M. D. to a total of 1 year, 1 month and 10 days’ imprisonment, 10 months for ‘breaking or destroying statues, busts and monuments representing Atatürk’ and 3 months and 10 days for ‘damaging public property’. The court sentenced E. D. to a total of 10 months, 7 months and 15 days for ‘breaking or destroying statues, busts and monuments representing Atatürk’ and 2 months and 15 days for ‘damaging public property’ The court deferred the announcement of the verdicts.

(11/088) Attack on Party Office in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that an attack with molotov cocktail by unidentified person or persons was carried on the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) office in Lice district of Diyarbakır on November 8, 2022. It is learned that material damage occurred in the party building as a result of the attack, where no one was killed or injured.

(11/089) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that 1 article on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr website and 2 news reports on https://www.birgun.net and https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr websites about Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 2 on November 8, 2022.
