(03/105) People Subjected to Physical Violence of Police in Adıyaman…

It is learned that 2 people (Mehmet Mithat Arıkçı and Mehpare Sahan) who was in a car stopped by the police on a road check in Adıyaman on March 8, 2021, were subjected to physical violence of the police and were injured at their faces and bodies. It is learned that Adıyaman Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation.

(03/106) Attack to Journalist in Istanbul…

Journalist Levent Gültekin is attacked by an anonymous group of 25 people outside of Halk TV channel headquarters where he went to participate in a programme on March 8, 2021.

It is learned that Bakırköy Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the attack that injured Levent Gültekin.

Levent Gültekin stated the following: “After my talk last week, I received serious threats over social media. I was walking towards the headquarters form Bakırköy Square and I had an eye contact with 2 persons. They started to follow me, and they attacked after a while.”

(03/107) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 8, 2021 that, 50 prisoners in Diyarbakır D Type Prison were transferred to Diyarbakır High Security Prisons No 1 and 2 under coercion. Some of the transferred prisoners are: Murat Balcı, Ömer Durmaz, Salih Mert, Çeçan Kilkaya, Recep Ergünlü, Abdullah Dursun, Fesih Turhan, Mahsun Kahraman, Mazlum Teke, Cebrail Kurt, Abdulmüttalip Tektaş, Hüseyin Karahan, Mehmet Can Alpaydıncı, Serdar Avuzlu, Murat Dişli, Celalettin Elçiçek, Agit Yıldız, Aydın Çalışkan, Abdullah Daldelen, Mahmut Okkan, Halil Kaya, Mehmet Şirin Polat, Neşet Kaçmaz, İhsan Akgül, Ertan Çadır, Tarık Aslan, İrfan Dallı, Mustafa Yayık, Ömer Üre, Ahmet Yoldaş, Mehmet Varol, Recep Bal, Cevdet Şendik, Ferhat Çiçek, Zınar Amer Ölmez, Nurullah Çiftçi, Abdullah Koç, Bahri Fidan, Velat Kaya, Erkut Kaçan, Süleyman Aslan, Ali Fırat Demir, Abdullah Zoraslan, Ziver Kinur, Urfi Pasin, Botan İverendi, Veysel Akkurt.

(03/108) Police Intervention to 8 March International Women’s Day Event in Istanbul…

The police prevented the press declaration after Feminist Night March in Istiklal Street, which was to be held at Karaköy ferry port on March 8, 2021. The police intervened the group marching towards the port and detained 2 people.

(03/109) Police Raid to Idil Cultural Center…

2 people (Bakican Işık, Turgut Onur) who were detained in the police raid to Idil Cultural Center at Okmeydanı neighbourhood of Istanbul on March 5, 2021 are released by the court on judicial control conditions on March 8, 2021.

(03/110) Detained Members and Executives of Association and Political Party Executives in Diyarbakır…

29 people have been detained in Diyarbakır through the investigation against MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations), 5 of them (Aziz Ölçen, Hidayet Arslanoğlu, Halime Topuz, Yıldız Damla and Aysel Pehlivan) are released on judicial control conditions on March 8, 2021.

The number of arrested people raised to 7 while 8 people were released on judicial control conditions. 14 people are still under custody.

(03/111) Journalists on Trial in Ankara…

The final trial of the case against Oda TV Ankara news director Müyesser Yıldız, Tele 1 TV channel Ankara correspondent İsmail Dükel, and Erdal Baran is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 26 on March 8, 2021.

The indictment demands jail sentence from 6 years and 3 months to 17 years and 6 months for 3 people on the charge of ‘disclosure of information relating to the security of the state’.

The court sentenced Müyesser Yıldız to 2 years and 6 months, Ismail Dükel to 1 year and 15 days, Erdal Baran to 7 years and 6 months. The court suspended the sentence of Ismail Dükel.

3 people were detained on June 8, 2020; Müyesser Yıldız and Erdal Baran were arrested by the court and İsmail Dükel was released on judicial control conditions on June 11, 2020.

(03/112) Ceylan Önkol Case…

The final trial of the case against the Ministry of Interior for death of Ceylan Önkol, is held at Diyarbakır Administrative Court No 2 on March 8, 2021.  Ceylan Önkol (12), has died due to a mortar shell fired from Yayla Mlitary Post, while she was shepherding in Şenlik village of Diyarbakır’s Lice district on September 28, 2009.

The court found the Ministry of Interior culpable 90 percent at fault and ruled a compensation of 282.331 Turkish Liras (182.331 Turkish Liras for material and 100.000 Turkish Liras for immaterial damages) to be paid to Önkol family.

(03/113) Ban of Events in Batman…

Batman Governorate made a declaration on March 5, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, open door press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands, collecting petitions, mass funerals, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows and so on are banned for 15 days as of March 7, 2021.

(03/114) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On March 8, 2021, 35 people are detained in operations covering 13 cities through an Urfa based investigation; and 31 people are detained in house raids in Izmir.

(03/115) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 64 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 767 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on March 8, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 13,215.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 29,094 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,793,632 as of March 8, 2021.
