It is learned from the news coverage of June 8, 2021 that, 6 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Avaşin area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 25, 2021.

(06/084) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police fired up into the air to intervene the group protesting sexual assault to 2 children, in Bağcılar district of Istanbul on June 8, 2021. It is learned that nobody was detained.

(06/085) Detained Co-Mayor in Van…

Mustafa Avcı, co-mayor of Van who was replaced by a trustee, is detained in Van through a Kocaeli based investigation on June 8, 2021. It is learned that Mustafa Avcı is taken to Kocaeli.

On June 8, 2021, 1 person (Dılşa Kocakaya) is detained in Diyarbakır through a Kocaeli based investigation.

5 of 18 people who were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır on June 4, 2021 are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on June 8, 2021. 13 people are released on judicial control conditions.

(06/088) Journalist on Trial in Izmir…

The final trial of the case against Jinnews Agency reporter Melike Aydın, for her news reports, is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 2 on June 8, 2021. The court acquitted Melike Aydın.

Melike Aydın was detained on November 12, 2019 and was arrested by the court on November 16, 2019. Melike Aydın was released upon her lawyers’ appeal on January 30, 2020.

The trial of the case against journalists Canan Coşkun, Ali Açar and Can Uğur, on the grounds of ‘targeting a public officer who took part in the fight against terrorism’ in their news reports about death of Berkin Elvan, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 34 on June 8, 2021. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to October 7, 2021.

(06/090) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporters Sadık Topaloğlu and Sadiye Eser is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22 on June 8, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 2 journalists on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The court decided to continue the ban on leaving the country for 2 journalists and adjourned the trial to September 21, 2021.

(06/091) Journalist on Trial in Izmir…

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Ruken Demir, on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 19 on June 8, 2021.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to October 5, 2021.

Ruken Demir was detained on November 12, 2019 and was arrested by the court on November 16, 2019. Ruken Demir was released at the first trial held on March 5, 2020.

(06/092) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The Penal Department No 3 of Istanbul Regional Court reversed the jail sentence given to journalist Sabiha Temizkan and ruled for her acquittal on June 8, 2021. Sabiha Temizkan was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in the case for her social media posts.

The trial of the case against Sırrı Süreyya Önder, former Ankara MP of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on June 8, 2021. The court decided to consolidate the case with the Kobanê case at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22.

(06/094) ESP Executive on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against Ezgi Bahçeci, Istanbul provincial co-chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 34 on June 8, 2021 Ezgi Bahçeci joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. The court decided to continue detention of Ezgi Bahçeci and adjourned the trial to July 6, 2021.

Ezgi Bahçeci was detained on January 14, 2021 and was arrested by the court.

(06/095) Right Party Chair on Trial in Izmir…

The final trial of the case against Rıfat Serdaroğlu, chair of the Right Party, for his article “The father, the son and the holy son-in-law”, is held at Izmir Çeşme Penal court of First Instance No 1 on June 8, 2021. The court sentenced Rıfat Serdaroğlu to 1 year 11 months and 10 days on the charges of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘insulting Devlet Bahçeli’.

The trial of the case against 205 people including members and executives of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 3 on June 8, 2021. The court adjourned the trial to November 4, 2021.

(06/097) TJA Activist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Zelal Bilgin, an activist of Tevgera Jinên Azad – Free Women’s Movement (TJA) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 on June 8, 2021.

Zelal Bilgin joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. The court decided to continue detention of Zelal Bilgin and adjourned the trial to September 2, 2021.

It is learned that the news reports about Professor Bedri Gencer, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://halktv.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net websites are banned to access by the Access Providers Association on June 4, 2021.

It is learned that 6 social media posts of Sedat Peker are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 6 on June 8, 2021.

(06/099) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 8, 2021, 26 people are detained in operations covering 12 cities through an Ankara based investigation; 17 people are detained in operations covering 3 cities through a Balıkesir based investigation.

(06/100) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 38 employees of Kimse Yok Mu Solidarity and Aid Association which was closed down by a state of emergency decree is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 30 on June 8, 2021. The court sentenced 7 people to jail penalties from 1 year 10 months and 15 days to 3 years 1 month and 15 days, on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’. The court sentenced 16 people to 6 years and 3 months each on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation’; 2 people to a fine of 30,000 Turkish Liras on the charge of ‘abuse of trust’. The court acquitted 12 people and dropped the case against 1 deceased defendant.

(06/101) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 86 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 557 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on June 8, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 6,609.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 48,341 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,300,236 as of June 8, 2021.

It is learned that doctor Temur Baykal in Ankara lost his life due to Covid-19 on June 8, 2021.
